Your BBS ate my message.
Well, I spent 2 hours writing a very carefully researched response to a posting, and when I hit "send", it asked me to log in.
When I logged in, my message was gone and forgotten. Your system ATE IT.
Thanks a frogging lot.

Anyone with any intelligence about the internet and forums that require you to log in before posting a message would know that YOU NEED TO LOG IN BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO POST A MESSAGE.Robert MacDowell wrote:Well, I spent 2 hours writing a very carefully researched response to a posting, and when I hit "send", it asked me to log in.

Next time write it in Word then copy and paste here. I would like to have read what you spent 2 hours on.

Next time, do what I do and copy it (highlight, ctrl+c) before you hit the post button. I've had this problem in the past as well, if you sit on the page long enough doing nothing but typing, it appears to time out and forces you to log back in.

That makes sense. I've had it a time or 2 and your reason would fit. I too, use Word and copy & paste if it's going to be longer or take some time. Thanks for explaining it.Conrail Jon wrote:Next time, do what I do and copy it (highlight, ctrl+c) before you hit the post button. I've seen you hunt and peck...the above message probably took you 3 hours to type
Anyway, I've had that happen on other forums too...you're already logged in and maybe you spend too long typing (either because you got distracted with something else, or were doing some research on other sites before posting) and then it asks you to log in again and you lose everything...very frustrating...

Re: Your BBS ate my message.
Exactly. Paging back and forth to look at other things. You know the Web... "Let me find this piece of corroborating data, "OOH, SHINY"... 2 hours later... "what's this window open? Oh right, the message I was posting, well let me finish it now." Unbeknownst (and unannounced), the system has logged you off for "inactivity". Which is some crazy notion of "it's inconvenient, therefore secure". phpBB boards have a lot of security issues, but none I know of are cured by logging users off.csxt4617 wrote:Anyway, I've had that happen on other forums too...you're already logged in and maybe you spend too long typing (either because you got distracted with something else, or were doing some research on other sites before posting) and then it asks you to log in again and you lose everything...very frustrating...
