GLC with 'attitude' in Traverse again today
Back to Amerhart I went today and caught the GLC swapping out a Railbox boxcar and a Hampton lumbersales centerbeam with a double door Railbox-car. Didn't catch the number but it was the worn out looking loco probably 392 (?). They finished up and PUSHED the two empties back to Traverse. Again, something I've noticed a few times..... The conductor was a ass. I'm probably one of the friendliest people out there and always give the proper greeting to everyone I come across. This is the third time now that I've said something to one of their crewmen and the third time I've gotten the pi**- off.
I've called them at least a dozen or so times in the last couple years to report trees laying on the rails or that signals aren't working and I've never even gotten a thank you. And having to watch some grumpy ol' crewdude give me the heave- ho when I was there for the same reason he was....... ticks me off. I sort of hope now that Amerhart stops shipping by rail- truckers (like myself)in my opinion seem to be alot better people.... Not going to call in problems on the rails anymore either. Sorry about my attitude and my opinions but they are just that- MINE.

Re: GLC with 'attitude' in Traverse again today
Engine should be 394 it was third out on the northbound the other nice and 392 is in GLC paint now and in the shops for its 90 day. 394 replaces 385 as it blew its turbo the other day and blew it good. Unless it was one of the guys filling in up north from Owosso it should have been the normal guys and neither are all to cheerful of people.
Re: GLC with 'attitude' in Traverse again today
I've been following the TSBY/GLC crews up here for years, NEVER EVER have I had a problem of any sort.
Really a fine bunch, both train crews and track personnel.
Anyone can have a bad day.
Lets hope this whole thread gets s***canned soon.

Don't allow this one person to affect the good works you do. Every family has a "grumpy uncle".
The CEO is a genuinely freindly fellow and like KC I've had good contacts with TSBY/GLC people over the last 20 years.

I can vouch for the CEO being friendly, and he has always (seemingly anyway) appreciated heads up from me regarding blocked tracks, etc. I've also known Ray from the GTDT days. I have noticed that the crews up here refuse to wave if you wave at them (and no, I don't "chase" them crossing to crossing, so they are not labeling me as a foamer).
Must be the run around was out of service in Williamsburg, otherwise why would they push two cars 10 miles back to Traverse? Safe?

I'm sure they have a job to do and especially if they were backing into TC, they had their attention on the crossings and not thinking of waving. I'd hope that we can all appreciate that while we'd like them to wave and even honk....this is their job and is serious. As for pushing back to TC....I too was wondering Rick why they didn't run around in Williamsburg to get the engine in front.Rick in TC wrote:I can vouch for the CEO being friendly, and he has always (seemingly anyway) appreciated heads up from me regarding blocked tracks, etc. I've also known Ray from the GTDT days. Re: GLC with 'attitude' in Traverse again today
I don't know why they pushed them back- the siding in Williamsburg is in service as far as I know. I was face to face with the guy on the ground. It has never been the engineer, only the conductors- two feet away on the ground not waving at the train while passing. The engineers has waved a few times to me at crossings in the past month or so. Sorry on on the loco misidentification- 394. I'm on the road all the time and see them everywhere. If you are out and about and see a Probuild truck, and the driver is wearing a safety-yellow reflective jacket- that's me.

Glad to hear that traffic is decent to this customer. I have fantasies about Cherry Growers and Rifkin's resuming service

MIGN-Todd, next time offer him a bottle of Coke or a couple coffees for him and the engineer. Flatter him with niceness. Just dont tell him he looks nice in that outfit, you know...
Also, Todd, are they still doing track work on the Williamsburg branch? Maybe they had track equipment on the runaround track preventing GLC from running around the cars?
AARR, does your wife know you have fantasies about cherries and scrap steel?

Re: GLC with 'attitude' in Traverse again today
I can think of many reasons for a crew member not waving.
They may be concentrating on their work, riding the back end of a train on a truly lousy day with no protection against the elements and many others. I would rather they stay safe hanging on with both hands than taking time to wave 'hello'.
I've yet to meet an impolite crew whether they be on the Wabash line or watching for us terrorists working the thumb hoping for photos. They may ask questions, but if they get the right answers are mostly considerate of railfans. Just my experience with them.

Re: GLC with 'attitude' in Traverse again today
This thread has really gotten off track (until Norm posted )
I'm not clear if the conductor wouldn't wave or was two foot away and refused to acknowledge Todd. In either case, some folks just are not friendly. I have a fellow worker that for a while would not talk to any of his co-wokers. He'd talk to his boss, worked the rest of the time mostly by himself and would look right past or even ignore the other workers. He had some issues in his personal life and just clammed up. I always would say hi when I walked by him. I eventually got used to no response. One day, over a year later, he started talking again to me just as if nothing had ever happened. (I just about fell over in shock when it happened )

Dad,
Your post, while "on track", lacks the sex and drama of the other posts.
AND, not railroad related.
