Fame = big money for your locos
I can't believe what someone paid for one of Eric Brooman's Proto 2000 units from his Utah Belt RR.

As PT Barnum said....."there's a sucker born every minute"! Nice looking unit but 1200 clams? Really?

Always loved Eric's layout and the obvious work he put into it, but I don't think I would ever pay that much for one of his engines.

I've always been a fan of the Utah Belt, but that is a little out of hand.

Newsflash, folks, if you're really, really good at what you do and have name recognition within a community your work will command top dollar. Undoubtedly, David Plowden can sell any of his photos for more than what we can sell any of ours. Why? Because he's David-freakin'-Plowden, that's why.

Did Eric have to dismantle that layout? I can't seem to remember if it still exists or not. Being that he's selling engines, I'm thinking the layout is no more.

I dont think he did. I remember reading in an article in Model Railroader he changes his layout with the times. Says in the item description that hes going to ACs. I also remember a specific article where the SD9s were going bye bye due to AC4400s.Y@ wrote:Did Eric have to dismantle that layout? I can't seem to remember if it still exists or not. Re: Fame = big money for your locos
He moved and rebuilt it about 6 to 10 years ago. But as Trunk Fan says, about every 5 to 10 years he purges his roster to keep up with the times. He usualy is about 5 to 10 years behind as it takes that long for the manafactures to put out new models. I rember the first article about his layout, he was just getting rid of the F units and most of his SD9's in favor of SD40-2's and GP40-2's. Then he got rid of the last of his helper SD9's and SD40-2's and GP40-2's for SD50/60's and GP60's. Now he is getting rid of his SD50's and SD60's for CW44AC's and SD70MAC's.
I almost bid on that SD50, but I fugured it would end up around 300.00 or so, guess I was wrong.

He does a lot of kitbashing to get the models he wants if none are availablesd70accsxt700 wrote:He usualy is about 5 to 10 years behind as it takes that long for the manafactures to put out new models.

Re: Fame = big money for your locos
I'm suprised he's not doing ES44s or SD70ACes since those models are out now and some are already 5 years old (according to his timeline), how about a Utah Belt Genset?
