Proto 2000 Berkshires

Unread post by BerkshireKid »

Just wondering if anybody has one and how they like it.
I just ordered one after testing a friends berk on a 24 car bethgon coal train at our club over the weekend. Needless to say I fell in love with it and had to get my own with sound and DCC.
It pulled the 24 bethgons up a 2.5%+ grade without slipping the drivers after the tracton tired driver was installed. Now i can't wait to see it pulling my 34' coal hoppers around.

I got mine at Rider's, Pere Marquette 1236 without DCC and sound. THE BEST ENGINE I'VE EVER HAD! A little light on pulling power for it's size, but more than enough for my gradeless layout. After listening to the QSI sound that comes in the DCC/Sound ones and not caring for it, I'm planning on ordering a Soundtraxx Heavy Steam Tsunami for it. I'll try and post a video once it's converted.......

I got one of the Berk's right after they came out in DC mode a couple of years ago. I had a guy at my train club convert it to DCC so I could operate it on our layout. I have pulled a 15 car train through our helix without any problems. The only thing I've had trouble with is one of the sanders on the right side of the loco seems to like to come loose and I've had to glue it. The details on it are awEsome I hate to touch it for fear of breaking anything.

Heck, they're sitting around the house collecting dust. If anyone wants them i'll make them the same deal I offered a friend of mine $40 each!!!!.
They're a little rough around the edges but are still great runners.

If it ain't breatin fire it ain't right. It's better than those darn GE's. GE may equal Great Electricity but it don't equal Good Engines.

No production going on in Lima, Ohio. Didn't you hear? They moved to China. New name is LIMA Locomotive and Rice Works LLC. :P
