HLCX Units in Georgia

Unread post by Alek9997 »

While looking around on RRPictureArchives, I have found many recent (Past Week or so) photos of HLCX units trailing offline on CSX freights. :D Most of these photos were in Waycross, but there were somein other places in GA as well. Here is a list of the units I saw in the photos:

HLCX 7199
HLCX 7181
HLCX 7175
HLCX 7169
HLCX 8179
HLCX 6302
HLCX 8157
HLCX 7228

Some of these units were in Cumberland, MD earlier this Year.

Anyone know where they are going? Anyone? Bueller?

I can't tell you where they are going but they are not NS leasers so that rules out one possibility..

From what I've gathered, CSX is having a slight power issue now so they could be being activated by CSX for service. Not sure if CSX has any plans to buy more GEVO's any time soon, so that could affect the situation.

Still 200 engines in storage according to the first quarter earnings call, so they will activate those before they go spending money leasing anything.

Power situation around Avon has gotten better anyway, I know they activated a few more stored engines.

What engines does CSX still have stored? SD40-2's and the like, or engines I wouldn't expect to be stored?

No idea of what engines there are exactly. I think some of the AC6000's are still in storage, plus I think they have Dash-8's still in storage too. I figured one of the engine geeks out there would know?

SD40-2's galore, 6000's, 70's with internal issues, an 80MAC with a busted cab (could be rebuilt but what's one more unit   ) C40-8's with internal issues SD50's and SD60's, you name it and there's at least one dead somewhere...

Actavated some more 60's. Have seen six of them just in the past two days. From what I understand most of the 40-2's stored are done, not to come back until they go through the 40-3 program. To beat up and busted to do any good at all.

8150 was on K401 two days ago on CSX over in Ohio. CSX is leasing a batch of HLCX units. Rumor is there are about 100 of them, but based on sightings of reputable sources, here is the list of current leasers that have been seen. There are of course more, but they haven't been spotted.

7175 K401 7/1/11 Berea OH
7181 Q380 7/4/11 Selkirk NY
7197 Q394 7/3/11 Cumberland MD
7199 Q574 7/3/11 Louisville KY
7228 R687 7/3/11 Deshler OH
7258 Q388 7/3/11 Garrett Indiana
8150 K401 7/1/11 Berea OH
8179 Q380 7/4/11 Selkirk NY

The 7228 was on Q501, not R687, last night.

300 locomotives by fall rush. 50 new ones, which should wrap up the order CSX placed before the economy tanked. Leaves about 250 lease units to fill the 'void'. I'd imagine they'll start showing up as HLCX (or whomever has them) gets them ready for service. Agreement rumor started last week, and wasn't a day later a trickle of HLCX units started showing up. Supposedly getting the 30 units back from Mexico they had on lease too. Hope they hose them down, probably smell like Tequila and refried beans (only a joke of course) by now.

The only SD80MAC to get the YN2 scheme was recently repainted into YN3...that tells me that the SD80MAC's aren't going anywhere like some people said they were. Just throwing that in there.
