Near Death on CSX

Unread post by DelayInBlock »

Okay, so I filmed this video back in January and was just getting used to my new tripod. This was a test shot of a CSX train in Tipp City near the old B&O signals. To my shock, a man jumped over the tracks and barely escaped with his life. I had to share this footage with everyone. Some people said he had plenty of time, but it looks awful close when the frame freezes at 45 seconds into the video. Here's the link:

12 seconds or so between when he crossed and the train went across.. I'll agree with the "some people."

The "looks close" part is also a function of telephoto compression - (i.e. it looks closer than it is). While illegal and wrong, etc. it wasn't very close. The real danger the trespasser faced was tripping on the tracks or something where he might accidentally go down and not have time to get clear.

PEOPLE are STUPID ! BUT, on the railroad the MW employees are allowed 15 seconds to clear the track before a train gets to them. I would still like to now how they came up with this number.

Better hope the school district doesn't see your photo or there's gonna be a bus driver looking for a new job. In Indiana, a bus driver caught doing this will be fired and have their commercial bus license revoked!

That photo AARR linked was in The Columbus Dispatch, so they very well may have seen it.

Yeah, I took the photo and sent it to 10TV news, the Columbus Dispatch, and Fox News. I know it was on 10TV and in the Dispatch.

I guess my questions are:
1. Is that a malfunctioning signal and no trains are in the area?
2. Due to angle, lens, etc. is it perhaps not as close a call as it looks?

There was a train coming...
...And even though the school denies it, the gate almost hit the bus.

It looks like, then, that the bus driver will be called in on an unexpected meeting by their boss and leaving without driving a bus for a while.

Worthington School's superintendent is taking the side of the bus driver and trying to make it seem like it never happened.

Perhaps one of the news agencies you sent the picture to will put pressure on the superintendent. If the train was as close as it would seem to indicate in the picture the press should jump all over it to help their ratings / sales.
