Conrail near Onadaga

Unread post by Proto48Patrick »

I have this picture labeled as "cr eaton rapids turn near onandaga, michigan" Does anyone know exactly where this is? I want to model this scene on my layout and would like to see if the bridge is still there for measurements/photos.

Thanks in advance!

You strike agan. It is NOT on the Lansing Secondary. Onondaga is on the abandon line that split from the Lansing Secondary halfway between Jackson and Leslie, that went to Eaton Rapids, Charlotte. Now I could not find a bridge like that on Bing Maps on the line to Lansing, so I can only assume that the bridge is on the abandon line, but where I have not found yet.

Those tracks have been gone for years (decades?) and the bridge was probably removed then as well.

The old wooden trestle over the Gd. River in Onandaga still appears to be there, though. That is something I'd like to see.

Thats the bridge over Tompkins road just east of Onondaga, they pulled that one out quick and a big chunk of the fill on the east side too. its been almost ten years since i lived down that way but i think the abutment on the west side is still there.

Do you have any more photos from that line? By the way, that shot would make for a great Then & Now comparison.

I believe the line was abandoned in 1983.

If 1983 is right then it's between 1979 and 1983 since thats when the 15's were built :)

Patrick, are you able to tell what the clearance is on the bridge with your photo? That looks really low! I wonder how many vehicles hit it over the years. Of course, when they built it, the small Model T was probably the main vehicle that traveled under it (unless it was before that time with the horse and buggy).
