CN, CSX, and NS have mainlines through Monroe. I do not know which RR's that line belongs too either.

Based on the roads mentioned and the photo I think it is NS

BAsed on the mapquest photo, I would say CN. It looks most like the Local 4 photo, and there are no tracks parraleling it.

NS Detroit Line Southbound Main, CSX doesn't cross Nadeau Rd. CN is the eastern most rail line through Monroe, NS lines are the one mentioned in the story and the other line of NS is next to the CN line, CSX would be to the west of these. CN Shoreline Sub, NS Detroit Line, and CSX Toledo Terminal, I grew up in this area so I am quite familiar with the rail lines through Monroe, I believe I have the Subdivisions right. The NS Detroit line is unique in that the two mains are seperate of each other halfway through Monroe CO. Funny how I was just down there this past weekend talking to an old friend about how fast the trains in that area move compared to the slow pokes here in Bay City!

I am hearing it is a NS train. Maybe someone will confirm it.

Based on the map provided by Michael, the track shown is the NS southbound main. I used to run that line.

According to freep.com it was NS going south. Not sure of the numbers but the report says the train was 4500' long pulling around 75 cars. They're saying alcohol was not involved.
