Re: Truck vs Train
Your right, it could also be sand extra. Frac sand has moved a time or two on weekends because it was needed NOW.

What's your source? I looked on a few news websites from northern Mi. and can't find anything.
Valentine Train?
Steam Railroading Institute of Owosso ran a special from Owosso to Mt. Pleasant, could that of been the train?
Was to depart Owosso at 10am.
Heres couple of shots of southbound later in the day.
Departing Mt. Pleasant at Mission Rd overpass.
South side of Alma.

Re: Truck vs Train
Nice pictures, KC.
The bottom picture is also known as Wright Siding. That is where GLC & MMRR exchange cars (I don't know if they still do or if they do it at one of the other several spots around Alma they could). Set outs by GLC go in the north end and set outs by MMRR the south end.
Since the closing of the refinery (1999) and stamping plant (2005ish) there is a lot less activity between the two railroads.

Im a Firefighter in Montcalm County and caught the traffic on my Radio,we have Gratiot County Fire programed in.I would think that would have been the train cause the time would have been about right.I cant find nothing on it ether,Maybe the Morning Sun on Monday will have something. The 911 call was made by the train crew from what Gratiot County central said.

Re: Truck vs Train
The train in question was a GLC extra empty grain train lite power move returning from Middleton. I was on the casino train and we started to receive reports of the incident as we were sitting in Mt. Pleasant. Engineer was shakin up by the incident but other than that the crew is ok.

So, I wonder who really pulled this guy from the river? The Morning Sun credits another member of the train crew.http://www.themorningsun.com/articles/2 ... 775684.txt

The conductor, Jacob Ranck, pulled the man from the water. Engineer Cox was on the phone with 911.

Now THAT's what I call a committed crew. After the accident they went and helped. Good on them.
