Lake Michigan car ferry endangered

Unread post by SW »

Subject line says Wisconsin, but it's Ludington's ferry...

Was going to post this in Michigan news, but since the Badger doesn't carry rail cars any more, posted here instead.

My opinion:
The ship should get a pardon and be allowed becuase its the ONLY one that does this. Lake Michigan-Huron contains 2,000 CUBIC MILES of water. 500 tons of coal ash isn't going to be that bad. Consider the fact that ships once numbered in the hundreds and did the same thing in the same waters. We still have plenty of fish, and the lake is clean enough to drink from (except for occasional surges in NATURALLY OCCURING bacteria such as E Coli).

Hey, its a piece of history. Why should we kill a piece of history over some relitevaly harmless coal ash/emissions. Again, several hundered steamers once did the same thing the Badger does. ITS SHARE OF THE POLLUTION PIE IS SO TINY NOT EVEN MICROSCOPES CAN SEE IT. Should we kill this piece of history now or allow it to continue to give people good times for several more generations? I would also think the 35 MILLION DOLLARS that pours into the Ludington economy each year because of the ship supports jobs too.
