Norfolk Southern in Lima
Question. Today, March 24, I saw a long train heading into Lima on the NS branch. Big UP Power, lots of open hopper cars, either coal or coke. Having lived near the line for 29 years, much different sight than the expected local.
Anyone know what it was? Didn't have time to investigate, stopped at NE edge of Lima at 7:30 a.. Thanks.

I don't have the answer, but I'd really like to know too. Was it a long train?

The train was quite long. I would guess at least 80 cars.

Just a wild guess but it sure sounds like a coke train.

The Husky refinery in Lima ships out coke. Maybe CG Tower will step in and fill in the details of how the Husky traffic gets split between NS and CSX in Lima.

That's what I figured it was. I heard something about a storage train coming out of Bellevue today.CF&E East wrote:Cars heading to Corman for storage. The power has made it back to Findlay this evening....

My fiance saw Rj Corman taking them through Celina today (4-24-12) so guess they will be stored past Coldwater.

That takes care of the rumor that RJ Corman and NS are reopening the line to thru traffic for the time being....

Another train of hoppers went south today...sign of the times for the nations domestic coal consumption.
