Western Michigan where is it
Western Michigan where is it
Should be easy if you've been through this area. Where is this and what railroad did it use to be?
1. State road passing a building with an old wooden caboose alongside.
2. Same state road with an old railroad trestle across the lake.
3. Any guesses to what this is?
4. Same place as above.

Here be the guesses... Ludington Northern Railroad on the north side of Ludington on the way towards the state park.
Pics 3 and 4 are the giant reservoir lift plant that's used to generate electricity. I think it's called Ludington Pumped Storage.

If you're ever in the area, the viewing area is located off Lakeshore Drive and is six miles south of Ludington and ten miles north of Pentwater. It's a nice steep incline of 400 ft to the rim to walk. It's rather interesting to see and the viewing area closes at 9pm. For those who ever wonder what the big hillside along US 31 that's before the Pere Marquette Hwy exit going north to Ludington, this is what's on top.J T wrote:You beat me to it, Zack (at least with the resevoir ID). I saw that thing when I was a kid and always wondered what it looked like over the "rim." Thanks for sharing, BB!
