Train vs truck. On GLC south board man
Train vs truck. On GLC south board man
No details, but sounds like there were no injuries. I tried to put a link to 9&10 but could not get it to work.

Looks like 385 is very definently derailed...

I wonder if they will scrap 385 on site? Hard to tell if the frame is bent from this picture. I don't think GLC is currently looking to do a major rebuild on a GP35.

I'm watching the clean up now. Elmer's brought in a big crane they are tryin to pule the 395 north off the crossing. Petersons towing out of Cadalac is here taking care of the wood hip truck they plowed. Look for pictures when I get back to ludington.

Ben they have a couple 35's down right now so they can part out 385 and get the others working, from the pictures i have seen the engine didnt look to bad, a little front damage more then anything but then you have to look at the trucks and the fuel tank.

Was anyone hurt? The article didn't really say. Looks like the crew would've been ok judging from the way the engine came to rest, probably a wild ride though!

How fast do they go through there? Takes a lot of energy to make a Geep do THAT

The news clip in the link says everyone walked away.SD80MAC wrote:Was anyone hurt? The article didn't really say. Looks like the crew would've been ok judging from the way the engine came to rest, probably a wild ride though!

Having walked away from something VERY similar, not really. Figure the engine climbed up just enough upon impact to have the flanges clear the rail and voila!!!, you have an engine going where that fickle fiend Momemtum wants it to go

Here are the photos that I took today. I stayed out of the way. I was surprised there must have been 50 other people sitting in the cars watching with me.
When I arrived they had already pulled the 2 cars north.

Judging by the short distance 385 went I would put a guess that they were not traveling to fast maybe around 20-25. Any faster I would think physics would have started to play and 385 would have rolled.

That does make more sense. I doubt the ride these guys went on was anything even near what you went through earlier this year.Buster Manning wrote:MQT3001 wrote:How fast do they go through there? Takes a lot of energy to make a Geep do THAT

No RJ Corman did not bring their hulchers...... I'm sure it was prolly faster for them to get Elmers out there with the crane rather than get Hulchers or RJ up here from Chicago or Toledo. It was prolly cheaper too but I would think insurance covers it.

geek....Doktor No wrote:One of Newtons Laws of motion is Mass times Speed Squared. Comes into play very much here. Take the weight of the train, multiply it by the speed and square THAT would ya! You come up with some astronomical numbers and thats the reason why at 4 its a coupling at 5 its a collision. The weight curve takes off and goes almost straight up after 5 or 6. Its like the richter scale. Each number is so much greater then the number before it. Sorta like swatting an aluminum beer can with a tennis racket, a baseball bat, a car then swat it with a train.

I can't even imagine what railroads pay for insurance. However, since they are never at fault in grade crossing accidents hopefully this all gets piled on the driver's insurance.CAT345C wrote: It was prolly cheaper too but I would think insurance covers it.
