GLC GP-35's
GLC GP-35's
Does anyone know what GP-35's are still operating? I have heard mentioned that maybe a few have been sidelined since the GP-38's have arrived. I was just wondering what specific numbers are still operating. I haven't seen 389 in quite awhile. That one seemed to spend a lot of time up north in past years. Thanks.

Someone else will know for sure, but I want to say 390, 391, 392 and 393 are still active.

Re: GLC GP-35's
At Durand on 2012-11-21, I saw 390 and probably 393 as part of a four engine train lugging 65 loads of coal south. As I understand it, they had engine trouble, and backed into the yard. I did not see that as I was planted on the High Wye waiting for a BNSF unit to come around.

389 was my favorite too. I was disappointed when I saw that. I went to Owosso today to check out the yard, and I saw 389! If it is true that she won't run again, we is parked with 2648 in the yard. I would add an image, but I don't know how Another question is, what will happen to those 2 high hoods still marked in TSBY?

Re: GLC GP-35's
2681 and 2648 have been parts sources for the rest of the '35 fleet for the past few years. Which is kind of too bad, because the 2648 looked good in the TSBY scheme! I've heard the crews preferred to operate the Annie '35s over the high hoods, though. Glad to hear a good size chunk of the 35 fleet continues to run. I saw 390 with a newer GP38-2 in Cadillac when I was up there in October. Has any determination been made on the 385, formerly "the Elmira"?

389 at Owosso on 6 OCTOBER 2012.
My guess is that 385 is finished and will be a doner to 389

If 389 was returned to service, then maybe the 389 would get repainted!
From "people" I talked with, 385 had alot of damage, under the hood.
....time will tell.........lets hope she can be put back together.
your image is not coming thru on your post! (twice)

of course if I'm wrong, then maybe some inside info will come forth......

From the picture DR posted I gather 389 is stored servicable. Is that right DR?KC wrote:If 389 was returned to service, then maybe the 389 would get repainted!

How can you tell "servicable" from a picture? I may have wasted a lot of money in my career.

Looks to be in pretty good shape, but that's why I asked cause looks can be deceiving.

Re: GLC GP-35's
I still think they should be slug canidates if prime movers are unservicable. What with sand trains and the TC and Petosky branch they could be used as cab slugs and mated with the newer power for such assignments?

Re: GLC GP-35's
Currently, 390 and 393 are the only 2 that are operating on the line. 391 and 392 are not technically OOS, but are certainly not in operational condition as they both have mechanical issues and have not moved from where they are parked on the grounds in several months. 394 is still in the shops building, not sure if it is considered OOS, but it is parked inside with signs that work is being done from what I witnessed a while back. 385 is undergoing repairs last I heard about 2 weeks ago, and should be back soon. From what I heard, 385 only sustained cosmetic damage and some other issues that are to be resolved in the near future. However, this is only speculation and do not quote my word as fact, I pass on what I hear from my sources, they are reliable.
