Insulated Foam Board for Scenary
Insulated Foam Board for Scenary
I found some pink foam board in my basement that looks like it maybe fiberglass insulation. Is this type or any insulator board safe to use for hills and other scenery? If so, I plan on sanding it down to look like hills and glue them down directly onto my layout, paint them, and put ground cover on the hills.

Some of the foam board does have aluminum on it on one side. If it is pink or blue then it is probably good for layout use. The white stuff sometimes has the aluminum on it and it is not suitable for sanding and sculpting like the pink or blue stuff is. Wear a mask when working with this stuff and make sure you do not have any trains or engine around when sanding and sculpting for the dust will go everywhere. I have used a shop vac in one hand and the sanding block in the other to control the dust when I work with it inside. Outside sanding is better, just don't inhale the dust. Wear a mask and expect it to static cling to anything.

What's scenary?
Yes, foam is good to use. Easy to work with, except the pick pollution.

RMRRC uses both pink and blue. I find it better than the old cardboard strip method for building hills.

You might want to try one of these or numerous other variations to help cut and sculpt.http://www.harborfreight.com/130-watt-h ... 66182.html
