Wisky Mich RR

Unread post by JANGAJONGA »

Doesn anyone have info on this fallen flag? I understand that it ran somewhere along in the bessemer/ironwood area, but don't have much more info than that. What were there customers/ops like?

If it's the Wisconsin & Michigan Railway you're looking for, try this-

This railway was between Iron Mountain and Menominee rather than the Ironwood/Bessemer area.

There was a Wisconsin & Michigan (WAND) that existed from 1992-1995. I remember it, can verify that it did exist but that's all I can find.

Now that you mention the WAND, I remember this line also.

This is a little fuzzy. IIRC WAND leased some track, former CNW, in the Ironwood area from Wisconsin Central or maybe even from CNW. WC ended up with the trackage at some point. The line ran east of Ironwood maybe to Bessemer to service the plywood mill and then just over the Wisconsin line in Hurley to interchange with the WC. I remember doing some research on the lease for CN after the WC purchase.

Just a little more research reveals...

That I was close to the truth. The WAND leased former Soo Line trackage from WC between Bessemer and Mellen, WI

That was the line I was looking for, the more modern one. Thanks for your help, specifically Standard Railfan, who seems to have answers for all of my UP questions
