Sounds like a choo choo rolling through Grandville right now.

Edit: Hard to understand what was said on the scanner, but it sounded a little like "008-something."

Clear west end Hudsonville @ 0942.

That sounds right then. I could hear "oh-eight" clearly but wasn't sure if he was saying "four" after that. I wasn't aware of this symbol previously, so it didn't jump right out at me. :)

Dan and Georgia used to be my neighbors. They were nice people with a big garden. They have been dead for years, though.

And I have Georgia on my mind.
Did look the town up in my 1965 Official Guide. Its on the ACL. Looked at Martin Mariette quarries in the southeast on their website and no Dan, Georgia there. Looked in the US ATlas, no Dan, Georgia there either. Must just be a flyspeck of a town...wait all of Georgia is a flyspeck anyway...
I thought NS (Southern) had a welded rail plant outside Atlanta. CSX's welded rail plants used to be in Russell, KY and Nashville TN. C&O\Chessie I though used to make their own in Clifton Forge, VA but after the CSX merger I though Clifton Forge was closed. I'm wondering if they are buying rail from a 3rd party supplier that uses someone else's plant?

At about 7:45pm this evening, CSX 964 was running Eastbound long-hood forward across Eckles Road. The engine came North into Plymouth solo and reversed down the Saginaw Wye and continued East out of town. D737 was still building their train to head North towards Flint and look liked a decent-sized train for tonight.
"...and I was in the front and Matt grabbed and pulled my ears from behind me and made horsey sounds."

Yeah, it is, but only works Plymouth on nights that D717 will not run the following day, but this move most likely had nothing to do with Q399. Except for the locals, this was a very unusual move to see a road engine come from the South and actually Wye and continue their trip running long-hood forward beyond East Yard.

Steve or Bill, did you ever hear what the symbol was?
