Michigan Shortlines January 2014
Re: Michigan Shortlines January 2014
From the looks of snowbanks at 84th St and 68th St crossings south of Grand Rapids late Wed afternoon, nothing has moved in or out of GR on the Grand Elk since the snow started on Sunday. Does anyone know what's happening?

Re: Michigan Shortlines January 2014
The reason for the delay in GLC's return to Cadillac was a SUV striking the consist around 1700 near Farwell. A link to news story with a few photos is below.AANscaleRunner wrote:Just heard the GLC returning to town at 1855. Boy I hope that went Manitee-Grand Rapids-Ensel and not to the NS. That is a pretty short multi railroad haul.ThatRailfanningKid wrote:JAIL heading north through mason with 6 boxcars, one with MQT reporting mark.

MQT is switching vans at Turner St, in grand rapids. They only took the local cars. Three covered Hoppers, one bulkhead flat, and two rebar flat cars.
Power is SD 40 GP 38 SD 40.

GRE has returned --- looked like six CHs from King, and two tankers and two CHs from Amway.

GLC is in Traverse City near the depot at 1422. I cannot see the consist or determine direction.
Re: Michigan Shortlines January 2014
Michigan shore railroad was south through grand Haven at 12:45 with quite a train! Cf&E 3885 leading MMRR 2019 15 two bay sand hoppers (all CSX) 4 tanks (3 from Bayer 1 from Webb) and 25 boxes!
This makes for a grand total of 44 cars from Muskegon on tonight's train!
Reminds me of the days of CSX when this size train was a nightly affair

LSRC Z120 through Bridgeport w 65 grain. 5921, 3074, 3095 for power.
Re: Michigan Shortlines January 2014
Most of the 25 boxes were the usual ex Conrail, UP, and a few other off brand high cubes that generally come off the MS. There were a few oddballs in there, I did notice a CSX high cube and a southern rail High Cube in the mix.AARR wrote:Were the box cars in storage? Michigan Shore usually keeps a good cut of These boxes up in north yard for Bay Logistics (Shape Co.) which ships 3 to 5 cars a night pretty regularly, however this time of year, Shape is rather slow. Last I checked north yard they had almost 3 tracks full of these Boxes. I would Guess someone needed them somewhere else so they pulled them. I have seen them do this before, but never with such large numbers.

GLC 398 with 1 boxcar and 3 sand hoppers rolled into Selma yard at 1535 this afternoon. Took off for Yuma shortly after that.
Heard them leave towards Clare at around 0930 but no visual.

Last I heard they were loosing most if not all of Shape's buisness via Bay Logistics. Something about a transfer in manufacturing facilities and parts are going by truck instead. Too bad. It was nice to see a good mix of cars on MS trains.csx801 wrote:Most of the 25 boxes were the usual ex Conrail, UP, and a few other off brand high cubes that generally come off the MS.
