As the Saying Goes...
There is a prototype for everything. Presenting NS 6814, (Built 12/1989 As BN 9207 / BNSF 9207 / BNSF 8107 Order #887033 Serial #887033-8) Safety-cab (Triclops) SD60M fresh from the paint shop at Altoona. I have to say, I didn't think you could make an already awesome locomotive look even better. Photo credit: M. Salter.
And yes, that IS a CR Dash 8.5 rebuild in the background

You mean odd like all the old CR C40-8W's that are the same way?MQT3001 wrote:Looks odd with the white above the windows without the number boards...should have left it black

I'm glad EMD didn't keep that windshield design. Can't see much out the front.
As with most things, what made it "awesome" to buffs, is a PIA to crews.

BN Green > NS Black any day, but this is still cool. Better than being in storage/torched.

No, that's NOT a CR (you actually mean NS) Dash 8.5 rebuild in the background. That's NS 6917, an SD60E.And yes, that IS a CR Dash 8.5 rebuild in the background

Look on the other end of the SD60M, the two things with grey cabs over there in the distance are Dash 8.5's waiting to go back to Roanoke for modifications.Mr. Tops wrote:No, that's NOT a CR (you actually mean NS) Dash 8.5 rebuild in the background. I guess I didn't know which "background" we were talking about. I didn't see that other crap back there on my phone, blended right in with the sky.

No locomotive can look better with the boring B&W NS paint scheme on it.TrainWatcher wrote: I have to say, I didn't think you could make an already awesome locomotive look even better.

Re: As the Saying Goes...
Whatever paint you dip it in it's still an ugly wide cab to me. Whatever happened to the days when locomotive designers employed industrial designers to make the dang things look better and still work.
What smells like lube oil and diesel.... Oh wait it's just my "Locomotive Breath"
Re: As the Saying Goes...
Those passed with "leave it to Beaver" and when mechanical forces realized all that "styling" made the things a PIA to work on.SousaKerry wrote:Whatever paint you dip it in it's still an ugly wide cab to me.
