Yeah, I must have him confused with another guy who dropped onto the scene around the same time, saying they worked for NS out of Portsmith, saying the same stuff on another board, but using the screen name brctcu. brc227...brctcu...
First of all yes I do work for NS in Portsmouth. I've worked in mechanical since 2008. But been around NS much longer than that. My father has worked at NS since the early 80's. He spent years working out on the peavine. And knows every inch of it. So I trust him, and several of the guys I know that he's worked with out there when they tell me what it would take to get it up and running. Now one of the main reasons I'm interested in that line is because our road truck territory in mechanical goes out just past Peebles. A lot of good that does when there's no traffic on it. Everyone here would love to have that territory back.
Now I admittedly don't know everything about the regulatory process. But I do know how NS works. So just because they're filing for a discontinuance of service doesn't mean They don't have other ideas for that line. I've seen them do many things just to turn right around and undo them. But as i said before. NS in the end is likely to do nothing. The peavine may just sit there and rot for another 10 years.
As for the thin skin comment. What do you expect from people when they come on this site to discuss something like this and 5 or 6 of the regulars act all high and mighty and condescending? You want to call me thin skinned and yet your first reply to me on here was some condescending rant about me being another stupid railfan that didn't have a clue. And then several others have acted that way throughout this discussion as Well. The And it's not just me that's saying that. I have several personal messages from different people on this site. That they're tired of the high and mighty attitude from those of you on here. And that's why they no longer post anymore.
And yes CSX CO. I do post on here And another site under the name you mentioned. What of it? I have never once said that they'd be running trains on the peavine in a matter of days.
Bottom line the smart a** condescending attitude gets old fellas. Why some of you cant have this conversation in a respectful manner is beyond me.
The only hope for the Peavine is CCET, NS doesn't want anything to do with the line and its 1 customer(which is why they leased the line). Any rumors about the line reopening are always gonna be rumors but nothing will come of them like always. Ever since the line was shutdown as a through route there have been rumors of it being re-opened but the line has only gotten less use & now physically cut in Willamsburg at the end of CCET's operating rights. NS cut out a small section of the rail
Knowing those who took over the line the future is bright, but it will take time to build the business, they wouldn't have brought it 3 units for a 1 customer operation the runs like 2 times a week

This. Again and again and again. Continue to read it and get familiar with it.
This article pretty much puts all the peavine rumors to bed for a while.... NS has filed for a discontinuance of service on 30 miles of the Peavine from mile post 73.5(Plum Run) to mile post 105(Vera)
I don't get why optimistic speculation is frowned upon so much. We're all railfans. Common sense comes and goes, but the entire hobby is a lot of speculation. I wonder why nothing is lined. Is it getting a crew change here or there? No, it doesn't look good for the Peavine. But just maybe some people want to hope it will get better.
Just saying...cheer up guys! If everything was as it seemed, the West Virginia Secondary would be a gravel road!

Yea, but speculation also leads to misinformation becoming "truth", especially on this forum where it has been noted that there are a lot of inaccuracies with peoples stories. We have in the past had people "in the know" leave because some overzealous railfan has told them otherwise and continues to beat the horse to death. While I don't know much about the Peavine, from what I have read from the credible sources and the few people I know down at CCET, who have commented on the thread is CCET is trying to work with what the got, and NS isn't interested. HOWEVER, maybe, instead of thinking Peavine, maybe you should think PRR as NS investing a lot of money into the CF&E to bring it up to standards where the speed can return to the Pennsy that hasn't seen the traffic levels since probably the Conrail days.
It's like saying the Saluda Grade will be back in service because NS needs it...
