Lights were on in one corner of the Michigan Central depot last night on the top 2 floors. Also in the main concourse. There were snowflake decorations in the windows at the main entrance.

Re: Lights on at Michigan Central Depot
The snowflakes have been there over a year, they were there this passed Christmas and the Christmas before. But the lights are new! If they were in fact "shootin a porn," they must've been cold

One of the bums must be a former electrician.

Re: Lights on at Michigan Central Depot
Seeing light in the MC Depot brings a few tears to my eyes. I worked there on the 1st floor (which was actually the 5th level) for over 15 years. She was, and still is, a beautiful building. There was no reason to let her be trashed like she was. She made 100 years old the year before last. And, frankly, she will probably still be standing 100 years from now, hopefully in better than her present neglected state. The trains don't stop there anymore. The trolleys don't run there anymore. The taxis don't cruise there anymore.
MDOT can find tens of millions of dollars to dump into METRA commuter rail cars that go nowhere and do nothing. MDOT can find hundreds of millions of dollars to build a new rail line between Detroit and Traverse City. "Private interests" can find federal and state money (that don't sound very private to me) to building a trolley line 3 miles down Woodward Avenue. But, as far as the venerable Michigan Central Depot is concerned, they just let her rot away.
The Michigan Central Depot would have made a great hotel/casino. Instead, they build a new hotel/casino which likely won't last 25 years.

If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

MDOT likely has little to do with the ownership or restoration of the MC.. Controlled Terminals own the building, whatever they do..NYCMan wrote:But, as far as the venerable Michigan Central Depot is concerned, they just let her rot away.
a company owned by Matty Moroun who also owns the nearby Ambassador Bridge

I too worked in the depot from 1968 until 1985 when they moved my dispatcher's job over to North Yard. Took many a train out of the station as well starting back in 1957. Makes me very sad to see it in the condition it is in, but Matty Maroun isn't going to do anything to restore it to respectability.
