Also to answer the RR on the island question. Grosse Isle and Stony island to the East of GI were host to the Lakeshore and Michigan Southern and/or Canada Southern rr's. They also had ferry service for the railcars from Stony island and wall as a watering station for the live stock. The U.S. Custom house is now the local museum. And at one time they had a roundouse and supporting structures there also. Check out the museum they have info about the rr's.

Thank you. I start to look it up after I posted and saw that Grosse Isle had passenger and freight service up until 1931. The "free bridge" is the old railroad bridge.
I didn't know about Stony Island.

Grand Ledge. I think this one has been in here before. Anyway it's at M100 looking east toward the yard. The track on the left is the lead to the elevator and the former Wye to the line to Eagle, Portland, and Ionia on the Pere Marquette.

North Manitou Is. had a standard gauge logging railroad, the "Manitou Limited", running northeast 8 miles out of Crescent using two shay locomotives, from July 12, 1909, until 1915 when the timber ran out.

Image

The roadbed is still visible and is part of the trail system today.

Definitely. Thanks for that Pixl. I see that Dummond Island off the east side of the UP had 30 miles of narrow gauge track for the same purpose up until 1927.
I imagine Beaver Island probably did as well.

You are right, I think Grand Ledge was already done before but from a different angle.
