Train Derailment in Saginaw

Unread post by SDavey »

SBS Z127 derailed tonight in Saginaw just after 9pm. The derailment happened along North 15th Street between I-675 and Wadsworth at the southern end of yard. 5 cars were involved: 4 covered hoppers and one tank car. There are cars on their sides, including the tank car, with another leaning against the fencing on the I-675 Bridge.

Saginaw F.D. had their Hazardous Materials Unit and additional companies out there until about 12:30am. Most of the area has barricades in place now including the catwalk over the yard and Wadsworth Street itself. Cleanup and righting of the cars should begin sometime Friday Morning.

If we were able to take all of the articles of the LSRC derailments and exploit them, they'll want to make the decision in having to upgrade their lines faster than they'll have to worry about the next derailment.

Another LSRC derailment, what a stunner. I could throw two strands of cooked spagetti on the floor to resemble much of their track.

Tried to get as close as possible to the mess. Closest was the church off Lapeer st. Everything else closer was blocked off. The last car was the 50' tanker. Mc Nally Nimergood had two cranes on the scene. Hulcher was still there with two sidewinders. Heard the yardmaster saying to the 116 crew something about the crane brokedown.

Yes Zack, the derailed train was the Z127. The Z116 is the "Saginaw industry job".

Well it’s a good thing I didn’t drive down today to take photos of the cleanup if I couldn’t get that close up. It was hard to get a look at things last night.
