Deshler Fire Pit removed
Seems some young "fans" lit a fire during the high winds, using inappropriate materials. Left, and did not extinguish the fire. The result was the sheriff and Deshler FD responding and putting the fire out and removing the fire pit. Also, it is noted on TO that law enforcement will now be watching for ANY fires.

This is why we can't have nice things.
Granted, we can't be sure that the perpetrators were railfans...

MQT3001, let me say it like this. Someone saw who it was, and considering the car was plastered with Conrail decals, it's safe to say it was a railfan.

Well those are details that were not yet shared, so how are we supposed to come to that conclusion before that?TrainWatcher wrote:MQT3001, let me say it like this. Someone saw who it was, and considering the car was plastered with Conrail decals, it's safe to say it was a railfan.
Well then yes, hopefully that railfan feels a good deal of sorrow for ruining one of the best perks of Deshler.
Re: Deshler Fire Pit removed
I'm not sure who the car with Conrail decals is, but the Conrail Hyrail truck hasn't been to Deshler since last fall. The last two weeks, it's been helping me move to another home anyway.
I've almost always sat in the opposite corner anyway. I railfan mostly at night, and I feel there's better lighting there.

Re: Deshler Fire Pit removed
I'm not sure why some Deshler visitors insist on having a roaring fire no matter what, including during 90 degree weather!
Re: Deshler Fire Pit removed
Nothing to report from council meeting of 2-22
Re: Deshler Fire Pit removed
Deshler has always seemed so laid-back. I'm not sure I've ever seen law enforcement near the park. I do usually see the mailman, who stops to use the porta-potti!

How young were they? KenTrainWatcher wrote:Seems some young "fans"

Mid teens. From my understanding from the person who saw them.
Re: Deshler Fire Pit removed
It wasn't uncommon for a fire to be left unattended.

Ugh. Isn't it obvious though that they're not railfans, and up to obvious mischief?Scooby DR TM 3194 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 26, 2022 5:23 amAfter an Incident in December 2021 there are now No Fire Signs/ Burn Ban Signs in the Park and the 4 perpetraitors at my last update were in Jail cause they tried to set the Ties on main 2 on fire and broke a light on the North Side of the Shelter
