While we wait for the next challenging location, I'll throw this one up, maybe not to hard, but at least it has trains in it.

Could it be Flint's Dort Highway under the Grand Trunk Western/Canadian National?

"Right you are Ken!" - MXC reference Man, I scrolled right down that street on google earth but didn't look at the street view for that particular stretch. Hard to tell a spur ran along the river on the south side of M-46.

I looked up an old topo and see that the spur came off the main line straight West then turned North at the river and on up to the industrial area.~Z~ wrote: Man, I scrolled right down that street on google earth but didn't look at the street view for that particular stretch. One of only two bridges on this 24 mi. shortline. Built in 1902, last train ran in 1960 on this stretch of the line. The remainder was used into the early 1990s when the whole line was pulled up. The line hauled mostly farm produce and passengers but also had another purpose, lets see if anyone knows it. Northern Michigan.

Being that there are two bridges on it I'll go with fish stocking. I know the hatchery in Henrietta used to ship fingerlings in milk can like containers by rail once upon a time.Pixl wrote:One of only two bridges on this 24 mi. shortline. Cross lake ferry service using the ice free harbor of Northport was one of the reasons they built the line.

Re: Where am I?
This company in a East Michigan city was so busy in 1929 they needed rail service. They asked the nearest railroad to extend their line another 8 miles to serve their factory, but was refused. So they built their own 8 mile railroad with its own name interchanging with the nearby railroad. Here is the company at what be the peak years in 1931.
Today they have moved to another city still in business, all that remains is the water tank.
Can you identify the business and/or the line?
