Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
A quick stop in Kendallville today ... no change.
Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
Looks like the Kendalville terminal lead at CP 379 is shunted on all the time now.
Not surprising. I have seen this happen on NS for interlocking being cut over to the new machines several times. Since these not 261 territory approach circuits are not vital to operation, I have seen the maintainers go ahead and pull the wires from the old interlocking machines way ahead of time. They then have one less circuit to mess with during cut over as they can connect it to the new machine ahead of time.
The River Lead at 509 was like this too. Among others.

Which bit is that? I don't see anything shunted 100%.LakeATCS wrote:Looks like the Kendalville terminal lead at CP 379 is shunted on all the time now.
Are you expecting CP 379 to be cut over soon?
Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
The one for the lead on the old GR&I
K62 is the approach bit for the lead to the Kendalville Terminal. K44 is the TK bit for about a few car lengths north of the home signal for the lead.
This is because the interlocking machine is old enough to have controlled the diamonds for the GR&I/NYC crossing. The K44 TK circuit is a remant dating from then.
K62 is now on all the time, before it would only show when the NS went in there.

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
Not true. And I have logs to prove that from earlier this year.

Is it possible that there is an actual occupancy (or rail defect)?LakeATCS wrote:Not true. And I have logs to prove that from earlier this year.
Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
No it was occupancy.
The local goes in there in the middle of the day on weekdays.

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
You may have misunderstood ...
It it possible that there is now actual occupancy or a rail defect that is causing the occupancy indication?
When was the last time the lead was "unoccupied"?

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
Always possible, but in this case with the flashers right on that circuit south of the signal I doubt it.
The river line/lead at CP509 was like this too. It was red in the months leading up to the cut over to the new machine.
I have seen this behavior in the months up to cut over of other NS machines too. Both lake and dereborne.
I know for sure this summer it worked right. Might have too pull some logs to see now.

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
The new (future) signal on the Kendalville Terminal lead is around the corner closer to the switch on the main line (about 400ft signal to switch instead of ~935ft). I suspect the approach circuit will be the track between the new signal and the first road crossing (Mitchell St, north of the current signal).
My last stop in Kendalville was at Thanksgiving ... no changes seen to the signals there that has not already been reported. Google has finally loaded areal pictures from last April.

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
I suspect the maintainer probably got tired of maintaining a troublesome circuit that is going away and got permission to pull the wires for the approach.

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
The bit has been off lately. I have not been logging to see if it has been on lately, just noticing that when I looked at my display there was no occupation.
Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
Ehh your right that bit has went off.
Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
Things may be getting started for the year. Saw the first NS signal change of the year. MP 266 east of Toledo OH new automatics. Yeah it's ohio, but maybe they are working east to west.

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
The installs went east to west ... having the activations go east to west makes sense. I am surprised that they didn't change over to the new signals quicker, but it is nice to see some movement.
Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
Again out in ohio. I will post it here because the Ohio forum isn't that interested in ATCS stuff,
CP 267 and CP 268 being replaced. No physical changes. Just new interlocking machines.
New automatics at MP 270
New electric lock switch at 271.9
The new signals have been up at least since 10/2015. I can see the new and old signals on google earth.

Re: NE Indiana NS Chicago Line PTC project
~85 miles from Indiana ... at a mile per day they could cross the line in around three months. (Although rural intermediates will go a lot faster than urban interlockings.) We'll have to keep a watch on the Huntington District and Marion Line and see if any of those 2015-2016 installs get activated.
The next change in Indiana on the Chicago line looks like CP 423.

Any more updates working across Ohio into Indiana?
