CN/UP Inspection Train South Bend Sub.
CN/UP Inspection Train South Bend Sub.
Executives from CN/UP will depart Griffith, Ind. Wed.@ 0700 EST for Motern in Detroit with a Inspection Train for new container business. I believe this will be a round trip. I don't know what the train will consist of for power or cars.

Interesting. I wonder if this means a new pair of trains between Chicago and Moterm, or just a longer Q116 and Q119 becoming daily.GTW wrote:Executives from CN/UP will depart Griffith, Ind. If this will be led by one of the E-units, I'm sure we would appreciate an update. Yes, I did read below that this was unknown as of yesterday.
About how fast are they projected to run? I may try to get a shot as they pass through Lansing if I can guess a time. I'd need to sneak away from work so I am unable to just camp out and wait too long. I see Griffith to Durand is just under 220 miles and Durand to MoTerm is just over 50 more. That's 270 miles in 6 1/2 hours. I can do some figuring based on the mileage but I'm guessing their pace will vary on different track segments.

Re: CN/UP Inspection Train South Bend Sub.
Railroads do stupid things when these trains run. 10 years of accumulating junk along the right of way and boom one of these come along and the employees throw everything over the embankments as witnessed yesterday. When NS wanted to buy the Grand Rapids line they hid every car on every siding the length of the line to make it look pretty for the OCS train but wouldn't you think the people in the train would notice the lack of business on the line. Probably not too many cocktails being served by then. The Conrail crews had Three Rivers yard to the west of the main which was out of site of the main full of cars and what didn't fit weni to Botsford. Next day after the train passed every thing was brought out to go where it had been spotted before.

It will leave when it does, so if you're already trackside, you can't miss it.
