Just because nobody posted anything here doesn't mean it wasn't well documented. It just means the documentation wasn't shared.

It was a follow up to this post since Zack posted on Friday that martinsuper hadn't been around since then:GreatLakesRailfan wrote:Just because nobody posted anything here doesn't mean it wasn't well documented. It just means the documentation wasn't shared.

The Grand Trunk caboose that was in Colon, Michigan is now gone. All that's left is a concrete slab.
Anybody know where this one went?

Re: Michigan Cabooses
Using the search feature at this site, and search feature within my web browser, I've not found any mention of caboose CV4043 / GT 79056 / ADBF 4043.
Perhaps I overlooked, or missed it somehow.
Is this particular caboose still in Michigan?

I believe that I heard that vandals started a fire in it and that it was scrapped.

Re: Michigan Cabooses
In reading your reply about the railroad car possibly being scrapped adds an additional melancholy to me for the moment.
I found 5 Christmas cards (1998-2002) featuring the caboose from the gentleman who owned it during that time.
In doing a search on-line related to the owner, it was learned he passed away in 2008 (based on Internet info).
To also learn the caboose he was rather proud of was later destroyed -as it appears may have happened- is disheartening
to discover as well.
I'd welcome any further details on the scrapping of the caboose to denote it with these 5 cards.
Thanks for the info despite it being somewhat dark and cloudy in nature.
Time marches on.

Dan,
Your report of the caboose being stored in the shop at Mason is SUNSHINE to my day.
Thank You!

What happened to the GTW transfer caboose that was at Lansing Board of Water and Light plant in Delta Township?
Re: Michigan Cabooses
While on the caboose subject, does anyone know where the ATSF/GTW one on M-115 just west of the US-10 interchange went. He also had a section speeder and some other RR items.

Re: Michigan Cabooses
The owner died and there was an auction and a sale. The property was sold. I believe the caboose is in Clare on property south of Old U.S. 10 and west of Old U.S. 127. It is visible from NB and SB US-127. the property may be owned by Northern Logistics. Hope this helps.

Re: Michigan Cabooses
The GTW caboose from Colon is alive and well in Branch County. Mr. Hemel who had the Chevrolet dealership in Colon owned it. He sold it to a vice president of Sturgis Federal bank. He moved it to Prairie River Rd. between Bronson and Burr Oak just off the Old Road right of way. No vandals got to it. It was low boyed to current site.
Re: Michigan Cabooses
Could you provide coordinates? I've looked a few times and could not find it.Stinger4me wrote:I believe the caboose is in Clare on property south of Old U.S. 10 and west of Old U.S. 127. It is visible from NB and SB US-127. the property may be owned by Northern Logistics. Hope this helps.
