Re: CN Retirements
More of the GTW GP9s are heading to Coastal Carolina Railroad. GTW 4628 for sure, and a couple more.

I read in the latest Railroads Illustrated magazine that the SD60F's are next on the hit list, Would be a good idea to get shot's while we can.

Re: CN Retirements
The C40-8Ms do not have PTC, which was a pretty good indication they would not be sticking around.
In other CN power news, it sounds like some or all of the IC SD70s will be rebuilt into SD70ACCs like NS’s program. There is talk of eventually doing something similar to the SD70Is and SD75Is. CN is also expecting 20 SD70ACe-T4s being delivered later this year.

Re: CN Retirements
It's too bad about the "Cowl" units being retired!!!! Has anyone seen any recently? I have not seen one since January 20th in Pt. Huron!!!! Are there going to be any more chances to see "Cowls?" I hope it is not over on CN forever!!!! Gosh, there are too many "Regular CN" engines now!!!!
I want to see a "Zebra Cowl" like the SD60F I got at Flat Rock, MI, 10-1-2011 (Mamiya® RB67™ Medium Format):

Re: CN Retirements
Around the beginning of April there was a bunch of WBs on the Flint sub with 5-7 units of power, the later units being cowls. It was easy to note when they were the BCOL or zebras. They never did come back East...

That's a shame, though we knew the time would come for these "Cowl" units! "Heritageunits.com" lists the 23 BCRail ones!!!! Now, six of these are supposedly ones for sale! Below are links for the 14 BCOL C40-8M units that were seen operating in 2020! Hopefully some will stay around:
BCOL 4606, seen 2-29-2020, Wamac, IL! The guy posted "Massive consist with other barns." I guarantee this was going to Centralia, IL, just north of there for retirement (listed as one 'For Sale'): https://heritageunits.com/locomotive/detail/BCOL4606
BCOL 4607, seen 3-27-2020, St. Catharines, ON, heading to MacMillan Yard, Toronto, ON https://heritageunits.com/locomotive/detail/BCOL4607
BCOL 4608, seen 5-15-2020, "Leading" train east at Durand, MI─I never saw anyone post about this one : https://heritageunits.com/locomotive/de ... Rxmx1ikkQI
BCOL 4609, seen 3-20-2020, Drummondville, QC on its way to Montreal, QC: https://heritageunits.com/locomotive/detail/BCOL4609
BCOL 4610, seen 2-29-2020, Wamac, IL! The guy posted "Massive consist with other barns." I guarantee this was going to Centralia, IL, just north of there for retirement (same train with BCOL 4606 and listed as 'For Sale'): https://heritageunits.com/locomotive/detail/BCOL4610
BCOL 4611, seen 4-27-2020, Surrey, BC: https://heritageunits.com/locomotive/detail/BCOL4611
BCOL 4612, seen 1-5-2020, East Lansing, MI: https://heritageunits.com/locomotive/detail/BCOL4612
BCOL 4613, seen on a train 4-11-2020, Plainfield, IL (listed as 'For Sale'): https://heritageunits.com/locomotive/detail/BCOL4613
BCOL 4614, seen 2-29-2020, Wamac, IL! The guy posted "Massive consist with other barns." I guarantee this was going to Centralia, IL, just north of there for retirement (same train with BCOL 4606/4610 and listed as 'For Sale'): https://heritageunits.com/locomotive/detail/BCOL4614

According to a recent TRAINS magazine, the DAKOTA, MISSOURI VALLEY AND WESTERN, in North Dakota has a group of SD50F and SD60F, that are in use. The head maintenance guy is from CN, and likes these locos, and may get more.

Re: CN Retirements
I’m not so sure about this. I caught BC 4610 leading an NS train in Charlotte, NC back in 2018, which (If I remember correctly) was past the deadline for the PTC mandate.
On a side note, is BC 4609 still out on the mainline or is it done too?

Re: CN Retirements
Those weren't running under exemption. The deadline to run everything under PTC was 00:01a on January 1, 2021.CSXT9040 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 11:20 amPTC exemptions were quite easy to get back thenDavid Collins wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 10:39 amI’m not so sure about this. Additionally, there were relaxed rules about cutting out PTC and enroute failures until recently; we are now in "100% PTC" mandate mode.
The FRA is NOT a fan of handing out PTC exemptions, and there are few if any that have ever been issued, and they sure as heck wouldn't issue them for a specific locomotive or class to skirt around the requirements. It's a buttload of paperwork just to suspend a PTC system to do reconfiguration or changes, for example.

4609 was on M394 this week heading to Canada I believe.David Collins wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 10:39 amI’m not so sure about this. I caught BC 4610 leading an NS train in Charlotte, NC back in 2018, which (If I remember correctly) was past the deadline for the PTC mandate.

On a side note 2101 and 2109 are both Standard Cab GE's and have been sold to Rock Island Rail. They will join 2127 which is already down there and painted.

Looks like one was donated to a museum. It's a shame we don't have a museum here that could take one.
