Deshler Tower
Deshler Tower
Looked at the the Deshler Railcam today.
Looks like all of the windows have recently been boarded over.
There are a couple of trailers next to it. They look like they might be the building moving type.
Is it being moved or maybe CSX is just discontinuing it as a worksite?

Re: Deshler Tower
Those look to be dumpsters. I think I heard that both the tower and depot are to be demolished.
Re: Deshler Tower
They are replacing windows last I knew. The tower is in good shape and holds MoW/Signal equipment. Depot is possible, But the tower should be fine from what I've heard

Re: Deshler Tower
From what I’ve heard the tower is safe for now as it’s just getting a new furnace and windows replaced. The dumpsters were for cleaning out the second floor. The depot on the other hand sounds like it has limited time. I’m not sure on all of this as it’s just stuff I’ve heard and read but thought I’d go ahead and add what I know.

Re: Deshler Tower
Station should have been torn down in 2002 after it was hit by that derailing coal train. What an eyesore.
Deshler should do some form of contract with CSX to keep the tower in any event as a monument to their town’s history. Not super hard to maintain that structure even if CSX doesn’t want to. See: Marion.

Re: Deshler Tower
If CSX don't want it near the tracks.. it won't be near the tracks. Just depends on what they want with it. As long as its useful for MOW it should be fine. I agree the station has no chance, should be gone.Saturnalia wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2020 4:41 pmStation should have been torn down in 2002 after it was hit by that detailing coal train. What an eyesore.

Re: Deshler Tower
Does the station have an asbestos issue? It could be that CSX has been kicking the can down the road on tearing it down, because they didn't want to pay to deal with asbestos mitigation?
Re: Deshler Tower
It very well could. Not to mention it is completely surrounded by trackage. Gotta be difficult(ish) to get rid of. Just enough to make it stand to this day.trainjunkie47 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 7:52 pmDoes the station have an asbestos issue?
