Ford wants $240 m for Michigan Central Station
Ford says it needs more than $239 million in public tax incentives to make good on its $740 million promise to redevelop the Michigan Central Depot and adjacent parcels— more than $100 million from cash-strapped Detroit

HA! Well, at least they can't take their station and go somewhere else.

Man, I am so sick of this company crying broke all the time. They have anywhere between $16B and $21B in the bank depending on what you read. They are still profitable despite their claims to the contrary. They aren't broke.
Full disclosure, I am a ford employee. In fact I'm wrapping up my shift at the Michigan Assembly Plant Stamping Plant as I type this.

Re: Ford wants $240 m for Michigan Central Station
Considering what Ford has given Detroit over the past century, that people are griping about this I find interesting. Nobody squawked much at almost a billion dollars going for a sports stadium (LCA) when the city was bankrupt. The economic impact of this is huge, and people will use the facility daily (not just during events) and will employ people daily. I don't have a problem with such subsidies when there is a net economic benefit. LCA however was IMO a total waste of tax payers money for private team owners.

It would be an easier pill to swallow if they would pay the police and firefighters better and properly fund their pensions.

Not really, I use my phone. I'm not stupid enough to use a company computer where they can track me.NS3322 wrote:GutsyChip wrote:Man, I am so sick of this company crying broke all the time. Is that more or less often than we hear the term "cash-strapped" used to describe Detroit?

in the last year since Jim Hackett took over? Way more, you just don't always see it in the media as much as you do internally.DBFanatic wrote:"Man, I am so sick of this company crying broke all the time."

Bye, bye sub-basement.
Re: Detroit Free Press Michigan Central Station Article
Without knowing how thick the new concrete layer is and how high the ceiling is in the sub-basement, we can't assume that it's effectively being eliminated. In the days when media didn't rely almost exclusively on press releases, we would have learned that information.

The city can always say no and have an abandoned eye sore again.

This thread was started back on September 12, 2018. I think Ford got their money.
The all powerful moderators thought it would be better to combine the thread about the newspaper article with the original thread.

Tad late for that... it would be a rather nice eye sore at this point.

It doesn't help that Ford doesn't say anything to anyone anymore, not even their own employees. Half the time I find out information via press release, the same as anyone else.Steve B wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 11:34 amWithout knowing how thick the new concrete layer is and how high the ceiling is in the sub-basement, we can't assume that it's effectively being eliminated. They can take my money. This project is truly incredible. Thanks for sharing these exterior photos.
If you've never seen it, this interior 3-D tour is amazing. Don't waste your time on a smartphone. This requires a real monitor to fully appreciate. It's about a year old at this point, but it a great record of work underway on the interior.

Has there ever been lights illuminating every floor at MCS? If so, how many decades ago? The top two floors were never finished when the station was built.
