Re: Where Is It?
So it's this little building out on Gross Ile, the Gross Ile Historical Museum? https://www.google.com/maps/place/Gross ... 83.1416392
From the depot to the middle of Stoney Island is 1/2 mile per Google Maps at least.

The brick station, now museum, is on the higher ground and had a track up top next to it.~Z~ wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:41 amSo it's this little building out on Gross Ile, the Gross Ile Historical Museum? https://www.google.com/maps/place/Gross ... 83.1416392

The line crossed Stony Island and extended out on a pier to the ferry dock.
I couldn't find a Chicago and Canada Southern employee timetable online.
That should tell where the milepost 0 was.
The current river geography is different than it was back then due to channel dredging and spoil dumping.
Re: Where Is It?
I grew up on Grosse Ile. When the water in the river is low enough you can still see remnants of the bridge pier on Stoney Island.DaveO wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 12:36 pmThe brick station, now museum, is on the higher ground and had a track up top next to it.~Z~ wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:41 amSo it's this little building out on Gross Ile, the Gross Ile Historical Museum? https://www.google.com/maps/place/Gross ... 83.1416392

It was actually Michigan Central that crossed GI, not Chicago and Canada Southern.
Re: Where Is It?
If anyone is interested Nailhed did some urban archeology on Stony Island and detailed the 3 part series with many photos

Re: Where Is It?
Definitely, the company in the picture is an easy clue also. At least it told me the location instantly..
