Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Another one of Scott's awesome videos that looks like it was filmed in April 2020.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Are there any photos or videos of any trains crossing Route 6 before the crossing removal?

Has anyone noticed the switch that was put in just to the east of Adams Ridge road toward Jewell? Could ND&W be putting in a siding along there? Having looked at it from a distance, it looks like maybe something that could tie into the existing siding in Jewell or is it something related to the grain facility in some way.
Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Has any of the work funded in part by the federal grant been done and if so what is the status?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Thanks for the great photo. I wonder if Pioneer is leasing or purchasing this unit. Some more on the MP15E which is a fairly recent rebuild program from NS.
NS Rebuild Program
Mp 15 e.jpg
The MP15E is a rebuild of an MP15DC as part Norfolk Southern's rebuild program. As part of the rebuild the original EMD D32U generator is replaced with a remanufactured AR10 generator from powerrail distribution and an EMD D14 alternator is added to provide current to excite the main generator. The 12-645 prime mover is rebuilt as well as the trucks, and the carbody. The units are rebuilt to EPA Tier 0+ standards. Elcon microprocessors are used. So far 18 MP15E's have been outshopped from Juniata and Roanoke.

What is the current condition of the ND&W? When is the rail and tie project going to begin? Are there any new customers that have come online? Thanks.

Local crew told me the loco was going to Napoleon. That's all they knew. As for the rebuild project. They have contracted the stone from my work place. No date on when they are starting.

Seems like one or two of the inactive spurs may have activated again (cement from Lafarge?). Also, business from existing customers may have increased. It seems the biggest change is derailments have dropped noticeably.PeavineEnthusiast wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 1:40 pmAre there any new customers that have come online?

Not to be a downer but they are derailing a couple times a week going west. FYI We have never stopped using the rail. Cement, cement kiln dust and burnable fuel are always coming and going from and too the plant.
Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
If I recall right most of the work is,for the segment between Woodburn and Defiance

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
I've noticed that they have been clearing quite a bit of brush and trees on the line west of Defiance. Wonder if this has something to do with the project on the line west of Defiance?

I borrowed this from Notch 8 and the Fort Wayne Railfan discussion forum which I enjoy very much. Thanks to Notch 8 for the information and pictures.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Was wondering if they were getting ready to start work west of Defiance, notice that work is being done between Napoleon and Defiance, including what looked like a set of lights(gates?) being installed in Okolona. Looked like ties being replaced as well (sorry I didn't get any pics)
Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Interesting and thanks. The rehab grants were for work between Defiance and Woodburn.

That's what I thought as well, maybe this is some else being done that is not part of the grant for the work between Defiance-Woodburn.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
They have also been installing new ties east of Defiance. I caught a contract crew working near Jewell a few Saturdays ago. As part of this they are also leveling the track as best they can. There's also a large inventory of ties, spikes and tie plates staged at Defiance, presumably for the grant project. As for the gates at Okolona, I don't think it'd be tied to the federal grant money, but just an upgrade.
