Re: North Carolina
Today I filmed CSX K 464 21 roll by Crouse. This train was slated to Combo with a Grain empty at Shelby and go to Bostic. For whatever reason, that didn't pan out. The grain empty is in the siding at Shelby with the K Train on it's way to Bostic.

Re: North Carolina
Today, another situation where CSX planned to Combo a couple trains. This time, K 446 40 With Q 652 29. at Cherryville. Again, it didn't pan out. Seems the suits and bean counters like Combining trains. Crews and at least a couple Dispatcher don't.
So they let the K train go first ( (approx 12:00) and Taxied the crew back to Cherryville from Bostic to get 652. I filmed Q 652 departing Cherryville (approx 15:30)
i 039 30 ( 896) EC1 to Monroe @ 17:50

Is the S Line the one that runs through Fort Mill and Rock Hill?

No sir, that would be the R Line Columbia Dist. The R Lines runs between Charlotte NC and Augusta Ga. The S Line runs between Morristown TN and Salisbury NC.
Re: North Carolina
Ahh, that's right. Someone told me the letter for that line years ago but I forgot what it was. S sounded familiar. For the past few years I've been a little obsessed with getting a shot of a westbound train over the Catawba River.Anti Social Railfan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 9:52 amNo sir, that would be the R Line Columbia Dist. A trainless photo I took in 2017:
And yes, that's a bird grabbing a fish out of the water, which just randomly happened as I snapped the shot!

Great Photo.
This line sees daily traffic/ 12R and 15R are the manifests, you'll have a couple locals, a periodic grain train and I've been told NS is taking coal to Wateree again. I can't independently confirm that though.
Bring a scanner 160.605

Apparently CSX Q 653 02 is having engine issues. They are crossing their fingers going up the Lincolnton Hill. CSX Q 652 waits at Mt Holly. i 037 building their train at Pinoca.

Re: North Carolina
Last time i was there was in the fall of 2017. I saw two WB freights come through at night (two different nights) while we were having dinner in Fort Mill. On a couple of different days, I spent three to four hours hanging out near that bridge with not a train in sight. Really nice scenic bike trail along the river though, so the walk to the bridge was definitely worth it.Anti Social Railfan wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 7:19 pmGreat Photo.

CSX must be pulling Dash 8s out of storage and reactivating them in to service. Today, a MOW Train F 822 13 was led solo by a Dash 8 and Q 652 12 was using a couple CM44s and a Dash 8 for power, Q 652 also had an ET44, ES44, and another Dash 8 in tow.

Re: North Carolina
I will be staying a couple nights in Salisbury, NC starting tomorrow. It appears there are 10 passenger trains that come to that Amtrak station there daily. Besides that, any idea how the NS freight traffic is? If so how many train per day? Also, what are the scanner frequencies for road and dispatch?
Thanks,
Micah_D

Re: North Carolina
Ah! My old turf, make sure to hit the North Carolina Transportation Museum While you’re there. My recommendation for a spot for optimal railfanning is 11th street in Spencer (right next to Salisbury), I’ve railfanned at this spot COUNTLESS times and it’s never let me down, since I’ve moved, things have probably changed but from what I know from friends, there’s still 6 stack trains (203, 204, 212, 213, 217 and 218) 6 manifests (153, 154, 12R, 13R, 14R and 15R), 10 Amtrak (Piedmont trains 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, Carolinian 79 and 80, crescent trains 19 and 20), you’ll also have local trains P61 coming off of the S-line with engines often leading long hood forward!Micah_D wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 10:47 pmI will be staying a couple nights in Salisbury, NC starting tomorrow. Here’s a video of the spot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_vXSMkIeak
I don’t remember the dispatcher channel off the top of my head but lots of dispatcher talk happens on the mainline channel, which If I remember correctly is 160.950. I also sent you a message about another useful source. Good luck!

Re: North Carolina
Salisbury isn't what it used to be, but still worth spending a few days catching trains.
In the daylight this time of year, you can expect to Catch Amtrak trains 80, 73, 74, 75, 76, and 77. 78 and 79 will probably run after sunset. 19 and 20 run in the early mornings before sunrise.
Intermodals: 203 and 211 will probably run while dark. You might be able to snag 217 and 218. You'll likely see 212 and 204
Manifests South of linwood 12R, 15R 153 and 154
North of Linwood. 12R, 13R, 134, 165, 352, and 353. These manifests can run almost anytime.
Frequencies
Charlotte Dist
160.95, 161.31
Asheville Dist S Line
160.83, 160.41
Danville Dist
160.905, 160.515

David, saw a Dash 9 (9031) on Q 652 this morning. Looked like CSX cleaned it up a little too.

Thank you all for the information! Tonight I caught 12R, 154, 153, and Amtrak 79. 12R was my favorite having NS 6969 leading
