Well it's a good thing you couldn't see the locomotive the entire time you were riding, or else the ugliness would have made your trip miserable.dalek ling wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 8:38 am
I am with you. I dont like those new charges. I rode from Lansing to Chicago once and they just looked ugly.

You probably missed it and were glad you did.
It's not dead yet but should have died years ago.
I've never seen a group totally ignore logic over such a long period of time, but they have.

Where is all this public support? Not a single person outside of this forum I've ever mentioned it to has ever been considered it, let alone thought it was a good idea.

IT'S BACK and it's going to get $1 million for a study if the budget passed by the Michigan Legislature is signed into law.
https://www.wxyz.com/news/proposed-trai ... 2-of-study
“We haven’t had passenger rail to that area since the 1960s," Jim Bruckbauer, the transportation director for Groundworks Center for Resilient Communities, said.
Did he ever wonder why that was? Not when you stand to get $1 million to fund a full consultant employment act.
Give me a $1 million for a study.
My findings: Nice idea. Few will use it. Cost a lot of money to keep it going year after year. Better use of money is for almost any other transportation use.

Re: Study Time....again - A2TC commuter rail project
An entrepreneur may want to begin to study the feasibility of opening more car rental businesses in Traverse City or expansion of rideshare services that would cater to longer distance rides in Northern Michigan. Something of value that would outweigh the current benefits of driving your own car from Southeast Michigan.
Re: Study Time....again - A2TC commuter rail project
It's as if the only people vacationing in the TC area are from southeast Michigan.

From the land of sky-blue waters.
Suddenly I want to reach for a Hamms beer and talk about a money-losing passenger train.

Yeah, well Mayor Pete is now a Michigan resident and Transportation Secretary and lives in Traverse City now. Don't say never.

Unreal. Another few million for some consultant to pretend there's potential.

That's actually Robert Redford from an early-70s movie.

And of course, now that Bootyjudge is a TC resident, even more money is likely to be wasted on this nonsense.Ben Higdon wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 12:18 pmUnreal. Another few million for some consultant to pretend there's potential.

Re: Study Time....again - A2TC commuter rail project
Yes it is not a Hamms commercial but that doesn’t mean we can’t sit down and have a Hamms beer and talk about a money losing passenger train to Traverse City.
They should use the passenger train study money for marketing in order to bring freight customers to TC
Re: Study Time....again - A2TC commuter rail project
Why are we wasting taxpayer money on this?
Re: Study Time....again - A2TC commuter rail project
A multi part answer.
1) The future holds vehicles and energy too costly for the average person to utilize the present personal vehicle centered transportation. Trains are the only way northern Michigan will maintain a tourist base.
2) We live in a society addicted to government spending. The DNC and GOP line up shoulder to shoulder when it's time to borrow and spend with future generations on the hook to repay the debt.
3) It's good for Traverse City and Cadillac. Who cares about the people who actually pay for it.
4) Consultants need jobs too.
5) No passenger rail service makes money. Why should this one?

I was totally un-aware that Michigan was so wealthy, has so much money to blow on a train that will not work.Learn something new everyday .
