LS&I 6-1-08 UPDATE WITH CN
Well the family outing for the day turned into watching the 7 Hill at CR 550, and for those who keep track at home MP 55.2. Lead was 3053-3003 with 120 emptys for Eagle Mills.

Not too many crews today, as dock repairs have pushed boats out till Tuesday. Enjoy

I like the way you showed beginning, middle, and end of unit trains, Chris. I love watching trains on jointed rail vs. continuous
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...

I miss the great north woods.
My wife graduated from NMU in May 2007 and we have only been back once since and that was in February for an NMU hockey game. We missed out on trains and boats. I hope to get up there for a few days this summer. I need to scoop up some pellets at the 550 crossing. This years class of 4th graders cleaned me out. Thanks for the posts Chris. They give me my little UP fix. Now I just need some pasties from Jean Kay's in Marquette.

L-540 has been abolished and they call themselfs L-539. I heard them today switching that lumber company on base. I catch them from time to time also inroute to the Tilden. Last knew ( dident see today just heard on the scanner) they had a WC and IC engine for power. I guess I could take a trip to Ishpeming where they tie-up and gander for you Mike. Or I could wait till you get up here and we can check it out together... What was wrong with the light?Mike Tabone wrote:You suck you made me miss my old stopping grounds. Glad to see CN finially replaced that crossing light. Have you noticed to seen any L-540's or L-539's?
pbmaxno15 I am glad I can help. Did you get to explain the differance between the types of ore to the 4th grade class?
Pellets
Chris,
The text book we use incorrectly lists everything as taconite and does not mention the hemitite and magnetite. I picked up a kit at a seminar I was at a few years ago. It contains samples of all the raw materials used to make the different pellets and explains where the different types of ore come from that produce the different pellets. Thanks again for the pictures and videos.

Where abouts is that location in Little Lake?

If I had to guess about 6-8 depending if the L539 makes there way to Sawyer to switch, and how busy they are. It seams when I am on the Tilden job or go to the mine CN has to wait for us. I know yesterday 6-3 we took 50 SSAM ore cars from Eagle Mills to the Tilden with the freight for the clay shed and the SSAM cars where loaded from the pocket while we switched the shed. Then we brought them to Partridge, where CN was waiting for us to clear the main. I think they where headng to the Empire.
IIIIIFFFFF I go up north this year you "might" see me one day up there I've never seen the LSI operation apart from a stray gondola/hopper making a run through Gulliver.
