Quiet day on the Holly so far. Only Amtrak trains and SB 515 today. Quiet day on the Board here too. Must be the same on the Chicago Division. Hot day too. 91 outside here and rising.

Re: CN Train Location Updates - June 2022
🫢 YUP BCOL "COWL" #4612 is heading north (to west) now! It is on train E251 as expected! This has happened before recently with "COWLS" and other Dash 8 "Variants!!!!" Looks like they just happen to be on a train to Flat Rock and then a train to Gibson, Indiana on IHB!!!! BCOL 4623 also was on E251 train last week! However it was last seen in "Deadline" at Homewood place one week ago (6-14)! Does anyone know if more are there? I realize that many old units die at Homewood! I am actually doing a trip to Illinois/Iowa from July 6-10 with "Mazon" and Mom (Michelle)! We'll be going to Davenport, Iowa! I would like to find the deadlines! Where exactly? What next? MAN!!!! Well BCOL 4612 came yesterday to Flat Rock on train A450!!!! Listed now on Heritage Units (Daydream) northbound through Wyandotte @ 4:04 p.m. Maybe I'll get this!!!! How many more chances to see a genuine BC Rail "Cowl" unit?

Hey GTW6401, where is Chicago Heights Processing? Is it accessible? How long will the "Scrapping" take place? Will the engines be at IHB in Gibson, Indiana for a while before going to UP? It would be nice to get something on my upcoming July 6-10 IL/IA trip!
GTW6401 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 8:54 pmRobert, the older GE engines are being scrapped at Chicago Heights Processing in Illinois. The scrapyard is serviced from the UP line.OK, this is happening again! A BCOL "Dead Cowl" is on a train south to Flat Rock! Looks like it is on a train that will go to UP in Illinois! Someone mentioned on Facebook®! It will head west tomorrow! Man, I won't be able to catch it! Does anyone know where on UP these all are going? How long will they be stored before "Scrapping" takes place? Now I am planning a trip to Illinois/Iowa for early July! I'd like to know where I should be able to capture "Dead Cowls!!!!" Are some at Homewood?

Robert, they usually work and recrew 251 in Pontiac. You probably have time to organize a ride and still see it.
Anyways to answer your question Chicago Heights is about 5 miles south of Homewood. The engines will be interchanged from CN to Union Pacific, but beyond that I don't know. I just see what's posted online and I've got plenty of pictures of dash 8s in the last 15 years that I've been taking photos.

As of 7:49pm, 508 is currently stopped in Gaines, with Red signals holding it there. Behind it is another southbound (mixed freight I think) in the siding on the south side of Durand. I didn’t get numbers, but 508 has two CNs for power, and the southbound behind it has a CN and NS for power. I saw that the Holly Hotel is or was on fire, maybe the trains are being held because of the action going down there?

Well guys it is too late! I was not able to get a ride to see it! GTW6401, I myself have seen many "Cowls" over the years! Some leading too of course! OK, if I venture out to Homewood I should be able to catch something, right? Though that is two weeks from tomorrow (July 6)!!!!!!!! Is Chicago Heights right by the Homewood Markham Yard? Over the years I have witnessed countless "Deadlines" there! OK, check out these few pictures (Canon® 35mm S.L.R.) that I (RLJ II) took in May 1998:Manistique wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 6:18 pm251 is passing MP 22.5 on the Holly at 6:17 pm. The Pontiac yard job might make a run up the Beltline this afternoon. There is a loaded center beam and empty gondola by the tower and they usually run Wednesday afternoon.
Edit: the center beam and gondola are gone. I didn’t see the center beam at the transload either.
