CN Train Location Updates - August 2022

SB Train 515 with 5323 again just passed MP 22.5 on the Holly at 7:10 am with a short train on its new earlier schedule.

I read about 515's expanded duties (up to Mount Clemens). I wonder if CN is having second thoughts about pulling up East Yard (well, most of it) and not basing any crews out of there anymore? Probably not. Sure is a long way from Pontiac to Mount Clemens, though.

The importance of East Yard has certainly had ups and downs during the past 20 years. My best guess is that it will end up as an intermodal facility one of these days as things become more and more crowded at Moterm. CN is betting on a much expanded I/M business at the Atlantic ports, and East Yard is in a perfect location with regard to multiple access points (I-94/I-75, etc.) and the junction of 3 CN subdivisions. It's a huge property that could well accommodate such a facility, but again, just my opinion here. How the City of Detroit would deal with this, I do not know.

As an aside, CN experimented with locals out of Detroit/Pontiac up to Mount Clemens at least two other times that I recall since 1998, neither having lasted too long before reverting to PH based trains.

WB Q157, intermodal from Port of Montreal to Edmonton, AB, with CN 2929/CN 3840 was the train that hit the pedestrian at Shepherd St.

This is a new train and I’ll post more tomorrow about these 150-series intermodals.

Oh my gosh, a Morning Train on the Holly Sub! Passing MP 22.5 at 7 am EB. Mixed freight followed by autoracks. Maybe 450 running late because of the issue at Charlotte last night? Led by a UP locomotive. Just like old times when the parade followed AMTRAK 351 down the Hill each morning.

450 by me last night was up with the flag leading a cn unit.
