Strike Averted For Now.
Sanity has prevailed. Like our late and great UTU Local 313 secretary used to say...on a regular basis..."Pigs get fed, hogs get slaughtered." He also counseled that letting anything go to congress for settlement is a BAD IDEA. The millionaires sitting in congress already whimper about railroad workers pay rates...
I hope it gets ratified and soon.

Looks like the Railroad strike has been adverted by our House Speaker and Congress. Wonder how that deal got done so fast?

Most rail workers are not happy with the decision according to what I have read. Doesn't address the real issues heck they may still walk out after December or just start calling in sick.

Re: Possible Railroad Strike
Calling in sick doesn’t really help them individually, since they’ll quickly accrue attendance system points without a doctor’s note and they won’t get paid of course either.heypal6878 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 12:35 pmMost rail workers are not happy with the decision according to what I have read. Some may walk, but at the end of the day most will recognize that they should live to fight another day, the next round is only a couple years out.
Re: Possible Railroad Strike
The older workers who have done their time could and should just walk away, especially if there’s financial incentive to do so. At this point the majority of them shouldn’t need to deal with the hassle anymore anyway.Saturnalia wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 4:46 pmCalling in sick doesn’t really help them individually, since they’ll quickly accrue attendance system points without a doctor’s note and they won’t get paid of course either.heypal6878 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 12:35 pmMost rail workers are not happy with the decision according to what I have read. Re: Possible Railroad Strike
I think this question is somewhat relevant to Chip's question, but did the railroads do any buyouts for older employees when the pandemic began, like what airlines did?

Re: Possible Railroad Strike
I agree Chip but the rail union is strong or it was back in the day. This contract is short and as stated above by Saturunila they will fight another day. Biden is pro Union but he doesn't understand management of profits over railworkers

Quotes you will hear.
"We gave it our all and fought as hard as we could for you!"
"We'll get 'em next time!"
They've been selling you out for years.
