Re: GLC RR
Stuff TC full of storage cars, make those storage dollars. While having a drink at TC Whiskey Company we can look at storage cars all around the "Y" tracks. Screw those rail bike's,more storage car's please. Let's go give Turtle Creek some money, look at all those storage car's. Craft beer at The Filling Station and endless rows of storage car's.
Re: GLC RR
Are they still using the line north of Oakley for car storage?

Re: GLC RR
Decades ago, the SOM made a decision to keep sections of track in northern Michigan in place to allow for future traffic and economic development, with some level of public dollars. The AA lines and the MIGN lines north of Cadillac were retained and south Cadillac were not. McBain is an interesting example of substantial traffic developing 20-30 years after that decision. The potash development might have been another reason to keep other sections of SOM or CSX trackage, but now some of it may (or may not) need to be rebuilt.
You can argue the merits of other segments, but with the discussion of TC to A2 passenger service, TC abandonment is unlikely, IMHO.

Re: GLC RR
Total sidebar here, but on a Facebook GLC fan page, there are repeated comments that GLC is or is not going to be bought out by Watco in March (or soon, or....). One gentleman Kenny Cook says "it's happening, I have good sources), but does anyone who actually works for the railroad know either way? Or is close to someone at GLC? It's hard to tell who is purely speculating and who actually is in the know. I'd think GLC management watches these pages and probably shakes their head as they reach for the motrin after reading some of the speculation.

Re: GLC RR
I think GLC and AA already operate their trains as a single system. If they ever get around to “officially “ merging I doubt we as railfans will see any difference other than the engine colors. Most of the changes would be the bundling of administrative stuff.

Re: GLC RR
I think the only area they don't operate as a single system per se is with unit trains. I think if they were to merge you would see the unit trains simply run through, possibly dropping off traffic that's been attached to it as needed in Durand or Owosso.
Re: GLC RR
Speaking of the comments on the Facebook group. The report is the GLC has only 6 currently operating units. Is this true?TC Man wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 8:58 amTotal sidebar here, but on a Facebook GLC fan page, there are repeated comments that GLC is or is not going to be bought out by Watco in March (or soon, or....). The rost currently lists (* are locomotives with active pictures / reports in the last 3 months or so.)
SD40-2 329*, 382
SD35 383*, 384, 386*
GP35 385*, 390*, 391, 392, 393*, 394
GP38-2 395*, 396*, 397, 398, 399*
25T 2126/1226
I know there is at least one of the SD35's down and 397 is being parted out. I have not heard anything about 382 and 398 being down, but it appears they are OOS along with 384, 391, 392, 394. Are they still working on getting the GP-35's back up and running or is that on hold due to the issues with the SD's?

Re: GLC RR
On occasions NS will run their locomotives with a unit grain train across AA to an elevator located on either GLC or MMRR and back.
Also, even if these two "officially" merged I still see the crews exchanging trains at Osmer IMO.

Re: GLC RR
In my experience, yes.
If CNTN runs, ONTN goes to Middleton or Ithaca. CSTN and ONTN almost always meet simultaneously in Clare to make their exchange.

Re: GLC RR
I have seen, and heard, GP35 390 this week to note that it has had a recent horn replacement. Similar in sound to what has been on 329 and 382 since GLC first received these two units. Have not seen this talked about but was wondering with 382 being down if the horn on 382 is now on 390, or perhaps another that has been in stock for years but not used.

Re: GLC RR
Specifically which pool the locos are stationed in.
With 383 down, that’s less 4-axles for the Middleton branch. Hypothetically, if they get a block of cars or even a unit train for MAC/Middleton, they won’t have enough 4-axle power to pull the max amount of loads allowed on that line (35). They’ll have to bring something down from up north.
Meanwhile the two diesels that pulled the SRI’s North Pole Express are sitting in Owosso waiting to be leased.
