CSX Train Location Updates - Oct. 2023

L30218 will have CSXT 7256, 5260, 4289, and 6151 out of Detroit. Not sure if the 4289 is coming to GR or Lansing, but the 6151 should be heading for GR as either L301 power or yard power.

Train totals leaving Det are 54 x 24, 7538 tons, 5094 feet of train. On duty and working on building their consist and train currently. Has set off and pickup in Lansing.

R597-17 @ 15:50 eastward reported by the Defect Detector mp CG44.2 Pearl, Mi with 12 axles. CSX engines #3243 + #759 lite power headed to e/e Wells siding mp CG41.4 to either pick up C800-17 loaded coal train that had tied down there early this morning & take the train to the power plant in West Olive, Mi. C800-17 has the BNSF Executive engine #9669 as its rear dpu.

Last night's L304-17 was working with CSX engine #8842 as solo power. No info was heard as to what the issues may have been for his usual 2nd engine the CSX #4067. Maybe, the #4289 is to be the replacement for the #4067 & earlier today I had heard Rouge Tower telling L301 he was getting another engine being brought in by tonite's L302-18.

R597-18 @ 16:38 eastward, siding to main, east end Wells mp CG41.4 with CSX engines #3243 + #759 & BNSF engine #5944 &130 loaded coal cars & rear dpu BNSF Executive engine #9669. This was C800-17 that had tied down there earlier today.

This was C800-17 that had tied down in Wells mp CG41.4 this morning. In about ½ mile he’ll diverge onto the west end of the Wye & onto the Fremont sub-division.

L301-18 @ 17:51 eastward reported by the Defect Detector mp CG91.9 St Joseph, Mi with 98 axles. CSX engine #8839 & 22 cars. He will cut away from his train & back his engine into the east end of Gross Siding mp CG61.3 to pickup a repaired car that was faulty & set off there by Monday's M326-16.

Saw these four units on the Deshler cam yesterday, coming north from Lima, turning toward Fostoria and then on to Toledo. 6151 was very clean in YN3b paint which I have not seen in person since 2-05-18, but will soon.

Edit: 6151 did not look as clean with the approaching dusk as it did in Deshler yesterday with bright sunlight. All four units on L302 were facing forward.

As a late but relevant detail, this train was laden with empty gons today, including a slew of the new CSX black gons with white logo and lettering. Caught them near milepost 20/Zeeland 13:35.

Engines based on assumption, axle math does work for 3 engines having 6 axles:

L304-17 last night ran with solo power CSX engine #8842 without CSX #4067 & it appears someone had seen L305 today running with solo power. Assuming CSX #4289 is replacing CSX #4067.

Had heard earlier talk today with Rouge Tower telling L301 there was an engine arriving today on L302 for him. L301 began running today with CSX engine #8839 solo power. His 2nd engine, CSX #6033, was taken to Chicago today on M327-18.

**** Update 10/19/2023: L302-17 had brought into Grand Rapids CSX engines #7256 + #5260 + #4289 & can't confirm where CSX engine #6151 is. CSX engines #7256 + #5260 was the power for L303-19.

M327-19 @ 07:02 westward reported by the Defect Detector mp CG19.1 Zeeland, Mi with 600 axles. CSX engines #3260 + #67 (elephant style) & 147 cars. This is 1 more car than what his job briefing had indicated. It's either an extra car or an axle error count. An 8 axle car is another possibility.
