Just passed MP 22.5 at 1:30 pm. We haven't had a 274 or 280 or whatever autorack train on the Holly that I know of since the autoworkers' strike so hopefully it is one and things are getting back to normal. My guess, though, is that it was a containerless 116 by the two CN locomotives and the time of day. Makes no difference, just nice to see a train.

CN 3032 and ex-citirail 3937 led a manifest westbound through Battle Creek. Anyone know the symbol?
Same for CN 3082 and 3861 with 2910 mid DPU led a fairly long manifest eastbound with a lot of tankers. Anyone know that symbol too? (Potentially M394?)

507 passed MP 22.5 at 7:15 pm.
To me Train Numbers are used very unseriously on CN nowadays. Saw a post where where it changed enroute today or yesterday. Even the direction doesn't often make any difference. I wonder if there is a business or even political reason for this? Anyway, it is nice to pigeonhole or identify a train by its number but a train is a train is a train and I just enjoy whenever one goes by whatever its number or direction.

Re: CN Train Location Updates - November 2023
I heard a SB go past my house at 2:30 am last night. It might have been a late 508 but it was a lighter train (nothing shook in the house like with 508 and its coiled steel) so I am wondering if it was another empty autorack train? Pretty rare on the Holly now a days to have night trains like this.

It was probably a late 508. I was watching ATCS and 507 came up through the High Wye I think around 9:45 PM. They ran to Flint where they pulled ahead on the straight track instead of entering the yard so they could let 508 depart. After 508 departed, 507 backed up behind the switch, the dispatcher switched it and lined 507 into the yard.Manistique wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 6:07 amI heard a SB go past my house at 2:30 am last night. A rather strange movement from the 2 instead of having 507 wait on the 2nd track in Durand and waiting for 508 to clear the switch westbound before letting 507 go east

With regards to intermodals, it’s all analytics in terms of what they call them. If it’s all racks, it should be an E280. Does that always get changed? Not always. Need a TM that wants to put forth the effort.Manistique wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 7:30 pm507 passed MP 22.5 at 7:15 pm.

But that G886 that ran out of Durand recently was changed in BC to G825. Who knows, maybe G88661 is just the outbound symbol from Durand and then this G825 was the symbol to take the train to Reserve, LA. Idk.
I’ve been told sometimes that it is a pain to change the symbols in the locomotives’ computer system such as when an E270 or one of those C712s (used to) terminate in Lansing. Crew supposed to run back as L542. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. Idk just call em as we hear em I suppose.
