CSX Train Location Updates - May 2024

L303-28 had only two engines east of Lansing, 234 was set out in Lansing along with 11 cars per the radio. Interesting considering the grainers at both Grand Ledge and Webberville have two engines each.
The eastward facing 234 would be a good match for 3208, I wonder if it was brought to Lansing to give L302 a fighting chance on the hill at Lake Odessa. It sounded like Ensel was pretty full, I would expect L302 has lots to pick up which would warrant that second unit.
5239 and 234 led L302-27 to Grand Rapids yesterday, 5239 returning after heading west on X327-14 earlier this month. Currently, it seems 5239 is not paired with anything and hasn't moved from Grand Rapids since arriving last night.

234 going to Webberville tonight. G07625 called to clear it out. One of the motors at Webberville has mechanical issues and can't get full tonnage rating.

In the pipeline is a B23528 for Webberville. Crew called at Garrett to take train to Walbridge, then will need a crew to Plymouth.

W034-28 @ 14:17 westward reported from the Defect Detector mp CG91.9 St Joseph, Mi with 128 axles. CSX engines #4057 + #2428 & 29 MoW cars (28 loads + 1 empty) @ 3,216 tons & 2,356 feet long.

I don’t know how they came up with “28 loads + 1 empty.” The work equipment flats had no equipment on them, so the track machinery must be at Sawyer or New Buffalo.

The train had a bunch of tie gons, which could have been loaded or empty, and a handful of boxcars, presumably for tools and supplies.

Came up with it based on the profile given to the crew by management. Trust me, we knew it wasn’t the right load/empty count. But that’s what the profile said.

L302 has 25 to drop in Lansing, unknown on pickups.

M327-29 @ 05:36 Grand Rapids, Mi mark up with the RN Dispatcher: CSX engines #5239 + #3208 & 106 cars (42 loads + 64 empties). Radio call was broken up & couldn't hear the entire job briefing. He is building his train at this time.

00:47 - G076-28 heard beginning their work at Grand Ledge.
03:35 - G076-25 east thru Brighton with my count of 93 cars behind 234, 107, and 3460. Thanks Pudgy for the info regarding 234.
04:59 - G076-28 east thru Brighton with 88 cars behind 5479 and 5265.
At least 10 of G076-25's cars were 4-bay hoppers. I realized later that G077-22 had more than the single one I had reported. I did not see any on G076-28.
G076-28 will be parked in the siding at Beck Rd. CH 27 given the crew was not qualified to work south of the diamond. G077-25 will be parked at John Hix CC 87.2.

L302-27 has CSX 5239 and CSX 234 if I’m not mistaken. I’m also hearing a U302-27 with CSX #5485 leading too, unsure if that is coming behind L302-27

My source? A Facebook post showing L302-27’s engines and in the comments is U302-27(?)

Your “U302-27” was in Wayne at 19:45. It was actually M268-27

5479 is the trailing engine on this latest G077. Does anyone know their symbol prior to Plymouth?

I would assume either G790 or G824 or any empty grain train from the southern states. This empty grain went pass Princeton Cam yesterday at 00:47am hours with CSX #5265 leading.

For the Princeton Cam, I’ve been noticing it’s mostly G790s. For Deshler Cam, it’s G824s. For Fosteria Cam, it’s G126

Edit 07:43 I just drove past the Van Den Bosch feedmill in Zeeland Michigan and noticed the 2 cars that were set off on 05/27/24 have been unloaded and are ready for pick up. I would assume that Y121-29 will be coming to Zeeland Michigan to make a pick up today.

I’m still confused about why these potash trains take the long way around. 4 crews needed to get it from Chicago to Webberville and that’s if the Plymouth sub crew has the time to run around at Williamson and then spot it in the Webberville stub end yard.
