CSX Train Location Updates - June 2024

M327-19 between 04:55/05:25 Grand Rapids, Mi mark up with the RN Dispatcher: CSX engines #5309 + #275 & 141 cars (42 loads + 99 empties) @ 8,851 tons & 7,975 feet long. He’s building his train at this time.

L302-18 clear green oak 18:12 CSX 759 705 and 6542 are up front

Thanks for pointing out 6542 on L302-18, I had to intercept them at Howell as I initially decided to skip the railfanning today (and was not trackside in Brighton when they passed).
L303-18 had 388, 5270, and 8054 which had been picked up from Ensel. No car counts from me today as my camera ran out of space after only 17 seconds of recording.
8054 was paired with 8315 for the Lansing yard jobs. How long has 8315 been up here, didn't it arrive shortly after 8054, could 6542 replace 8315 or will it replace another 4-axle unit out west?

Update: 8054 had come up on L302-21 of March 21st, and 8315 had come up on L302-29 of April 29th. 8315 could also be seen up until December 8th of 2023 where, to my knowledge, it was last reported on an L304.
I am sure I asked what train the 8315 had departed on, but of course I have forgotten. IIRC it went down to Chicago only to reappear headed west from Detroit.

L304-18 based on the overnight DD reports` axle match had ran with 2 six axle engines. Assuming it had CSX engine #8315 plus an unknown trailing engine. Recently, the radio quality for the Broadcastify online Plymouth scanner for the CSX radio calls has diminished. Hopefully, someone will be able to identify what the 2nd engine is when L305 runs today. Here are the L304 overnight DD104.3 reports (engine order not known):

R597-18 @ 08:49 eastward Holland, Mi Depot mp CG25.3 with CSX engines #858 + #7381 lite power. In about ½ mile he’ll diverge onto the west end of the Wye & onto the Fremont sub-division headed to the power plant in West Olive, Mi.

Tuesdays L305-18 ran with 4082 + 8315. 4082 came west on L302-17 on Monday. As usual when a replacement unit gets on L305, both units were facing west so one of them will have to been spun at some point to get them back to back.

R598-18 @ 21:20 westward reported by the Defect Detector mp CG44.2 Pearl, Mi with 532 axles. CSX engines #7381 + #858 & 130 empty coal cars (there was no BNSF power at the power plant in West Olive, Mi). He’ll take Grand Jct siding mp CG54 & tie down.

This set of empties will be tied down at Grand Jct to await the next inbound load power or a procured set of CSX motors that are not the pushers.

The storage cars on the Mich Shore are also coming back down Wednesday, so look for an R job to handle that transaction as well tomorrow.

Z627-19 @ 10:03 with engine MRR #2019 leading copied their EC1 to bring empty coal cars to mp CGC34.5 & R597-18 will take the cars into the power plant in West Olive, Mi.

L301-19 @ 10:22 Grand Rapids, Mi mark up with the RN Dispatcher: CSX engines #4057 + #8801 & 20 cars (10 loads + 10 empties) @ 1,535 tons & 1,381 feet long. He’ll head westward for work at Buzzi Cement mp CG5.2 & then he’ll go into Waverly mp CG22.8 & later westward to Hartford mp CG68.7 to Sawyer mp CG105.2

M326-19 @ 10:46 is between Michigan City mp CG126.1 & New Buffalo mp CG116.5 per the St Joseph Bridge Tender advising the bridge workers.

R597-18 @ 11:15 copied their EC1 to depart the power plant in West Olive, Mi mp CGP 1.0 & diverge onto the Fremont sub-div & head south to the Grand Rapids sub-div in Holland, Mi with CSX engines #7381 + #858 & maybe empty coal cars (another empties move(?). Conversation was broken up, Dispatcher was talking about them going between Grey mp CG82.8 & Benton Harbor mp CG87.0 & then had said he may have to clear them into Wells mp CG41.4 or Kirk mp CG70.2 depending on their progress (to clear up for M326?).

If he brought an extra pair of engines for the empty coal train he would have 156 cars. Won't know until he reaches the live cam in Bangor unless someone in the area up there reports.

R597-18 @ 12:27 westward cleared the Holland Depot mp CG25.3 Grand Rapids sub-div with CSX engines #7381 + #858 & 130 empty coal cars. He’ll be taking Wells Siding mp CG41.4 to tie down & cut the crossing there. Note: 130 empty coal cars (without power) were tied down earlier today in Grand Jct siding.

M326-19 @ 12:30 advised the Dispatcher they will be needing R597-18's power to get them over the Saugatuck Hill mp CG32.5 He'll add their engines behind his leader at the west end of Wells mp CG43.3
