1st Autoracks for Gaylord
Re: 1st Autoracks for Gaylord
LSRC 301 and 4301 brought in two auto racks today at 6:00p. There already were some new vehicles in the lot, apparently from the first load.

No different than anywhere else in the Midwest?
Re: 1st Autoracks for Gaylord
Those originated in Canada, though both of those are no longer made there anymore, the Ford Edge being discontinued entirely.NS3322 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 7:31 pmPhotos from the Otsego County Economic Alliance's Facebook page:Otsego County Economic Alliance wrote:Finally we can share the news . . . . after working almost two years on this project, OCEA is excited to share that Ford Motor Company is now railing new vehicles from their assembly line to Otsego County for offloading and transport throughout Northern Michigan. The red vehicle?
I am pretty sure the white vehicle is a Lincoln Nautilus. Is the Nautilus still being built at Changan Ford in China?

I looked on the Ford website and it looks like most Ford products are produced in China along with a few we don't see here.

My bad, you’re right. All the Lincoln stuff looks pretty much the same to me. I’m not their target demographic anyway.
Wrong. The only thing built in China that’s sold here is the new Lincoln Nautilus. Everything else built in China is for the Chinese market.Raildudes dad wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 10:00 pmI looked on the Ford website and it looks like most Ford products are produced in China along with a few we don't see here.

My comment was in response to this comment
. I was surprised at the various Ford vehicles built in China including the Nautilus. Nothing was inferred as to what model(s) are built for export from either country. I thought folks would be interested in what models are built in China. Is the Nautilus still being built at Changan Ford in China?

This ramp could also be used to move rental cars as they follow the seasonal use. Rental cars not needed in Orlando this time of year could be used in Traverse City. Then sent back south in early November. Maybe a load of e-bikes will come in for Mackinaw Island.

Stopped by the facility while heading to my lakehouse in East Jordan this past weekend. It’s definitely small and I question it’s long term viability because of that. There’s room for at most four autoracks. You could argue that it’s for a niche market and it doesn’t have to be big, but I’m still kinda skeptical about it.

Your right, the only thing this is doing is keeping car haulers in check with rates. Thats why Ford is backing this move, the next thing you know they will be storing lumber on the parking lot and the LP gas dealer will be storing gas loads on the two stub tracks. Also wait till winter rolls around, things are moving along good right now, but Flint and Detroit doesn't get any were near the snow fall, and don't forget Gaylord is right in the bullseye of heavy lake effect snow. Trying to unload new car and trucks in a all-out lake effect snow storm and slipping and sliding on a frozen steel ramp isn't all what its cut out to be. It will be a flash in the pan!!!

GLC could never pull off something like this. They couldn’t even get the unit intermodal trains or A2TC off the ground. LSRC is light years ahead of them.GP-35 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 1:43 pmYour right, the only thing this is doing is keeping car haulers in check with rates. Since when did GLC wanted to do unit intermodal? Never heard of this proposal beforeLansingRailFan wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 2:09 pmGLC could never pull off something like this. Maybe the empty containers that were going to be shipped via rail to Britten's new facility in Traverse City. They graded for the new siding when the new building was built last year and finished just recently and then apparently the new manager at GLC lost that opportunity. So it's dead in the water.dalek ling wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 11:00 pmSince when did GLC wanted to do unit intermodal?
