Sheldon Road Bridge
Sheldon Road Bridge
The rumor is correct the new bridge will be single tracked. The switch has already been removed. The Sheldon Block may become permament(sp).

Honestly why the hell do they still need a bridge, no CP trains and Q326 could be pulled by my pickup truck most nights and no longer stops in Plymouth. So what would warrant a multi million dollar project, that is already behind escially after they messed up the sanitary sewer line and had to restart. If you ask me its a waste of tax dollars.
Amen to that! But you never know if CP will start running more trains through here with all the issues lately they've been having with NS. You never know.Mike Tabone wrote:...If you ask me its a waste of tax dollars.

So wait... rather than have a doubletrack bridge over the Sheldon Road, we're going to make it single track? What good is that going to do anyone?! Now, rather than occasionally use helpers to push coal trains and other long westbound up the hill, they always will have to, unless they're going straight up the main. Even if Q327 comes straight across the diamond, they're going to switch on and off the main if an eastbound is coming. This sort of eliminates the need for the doubletrack that exists between CH25 (just west of the diamond) and Sheldon Road. And that effectively cuts down the length of the passing track from CH25 to Beck Road by a considerable amount.... hmmmm
I agree that it's dumb that they even continue with the bridge project. It's been so muhc of an inconvenience already.... and not much progress has been made.

Maybe they will leave spaces on each end of the bridge incase they do want to add in a 2nd track in the future. They have this on the underpass on Newburg Road infront of Newburg Yard on CSX down near Wayne. They left spaces on both sides incase CSX needed a second track put-in. At one point, it was double track over Newburg Road and I think it was because of the underpass project when they did that there, too. It is really unusual that CSX has barely a mile of single track main. Plymouth diamond to Wick Road in Romulus is all double track except for that 1 mile stretch.

Problem with that idea is their going to tear the switch out. So there will be only one way into the heater track. Not that much of a problem. If an eastbound needs to meet with a westbound, they would just throw the westbound on the siding past Sheldon Road; it's not that much of a hassall as it is now.

Try telling that to Conrail back in the 1980s on the Michigan Line. If they kept those sidings that they removed in the 1980s, CP would be hauling their trains through there right now!Railfan James wrote:Its stupid to go from double to single to double again..... The cost of putting in switches = the cost of keeping double track..... Not to mention I have read many places that the railroads try to have less switches due to expense....
