Is there still any mining that goes on in the area? Does the city still recieve railservice for any reason?

No, the last operating copper mines around Calumet shut down in 1968. The Soo still served the area for a few more years, with service to Calumet ending in 1978, IIRC. After that, they continued to run as far as Houghton/Hancock, with the last revenue train leaving Houghton in 1982. The CN still runs as far west as Baraga, that being the last active remnant of the old Soo (ex DSS&A) line to Calumet. The track has long since been removed west of Chassell, and the portion from Baraga to Chassell still has rail in place but is very overgrown.
