don't you have a scanner that can hear them more than 10 minutes away? or were they stopped for a while north of town?

There's not really anywhere north of town where they could have stopped, at least not without blocking Mill Rd. or 7 Mile Rd. But I have noticed sometimes the coal trains slip thru unannounced. Not sure what the deal is there.

They were stopped in the siding in Novi hard to hear anything moving south out of the city as they only call 9 and 7 mile, you would be lucky to hear them on the scanner even if they do call them, and maybe Middle River. On top of that they had to wait for N956(?) northbound so the signal in Plymouth I don't think would change before they cleared the Novi siding, not sure on the signal stuff.

Eric, are talking about the northbound coal train with the SD70Mac and ES44AC? If so, that was N952-22. It's hard to catch a southbound north of Plymouth (Mainly in Northville) ahead of time because you usually don't hear them calling out signals until 7 Mile Road or Middle River where it's too late and better off waiting for it south of Plymouth diamond.

Most stuff from the north of Plymouth is usually stealth, very hilly and only two signals between Novi and Middle River.

E951-26 is the train in question.....E is always a empty....N can be either depending on loading....

As for picking up signal calling north of Plymouth...you just need to get a better scanner antennae. or scanner..I can pick up Lincoln really easy and most days I can get almost to Clyde...on really good days I can get Holly or so....

A "rubber ducky" isnt going to cut it around the area....

Mike> First off, I have to complement you on the photo... but since when did you turn that Ugly????

And yeah, the coal drags are a little steathy... But, you normally can catch the West Olives as you see them just before they hit the wye SB.... But the Flints... they are haulin A%%....

Heck, I live at the south end of Clyde siding and I BARELY hear 'em call out when they clear the signals. I swear they whisper on the radio.
