Re: New addition to my roster #8804
This is an Atlas GP40. i have modified the exterior to be prototypical by removing a fan and patching the roof and sides as appropriate. Central Michigan had these rebuilt to the standards of a GP38-2...atleast thats what i've heard.

Re: New addition to my roster #8804
8801-8804 were built as Chessie(B&O I think) GP40s. soon after the CSX merger they were sold to HLCX who rebuilt them and then in turn sold them to Central Michigan. I think Conrail Jon has the numbers and picture of the units before they were CMGN. Meanwhile my 8802 is still sitting as an Undec unit however I have 8905 done, I'm just waiting on my decals

Re: New additions to my roster part 2
Thanks Todd. new pictures posted on the top post of the newly finished CM8905. My layout is soon chaging focus from major class 1 to michigan shortlines. argh. I've painted over 50 locomotives in GTW/CN over the last 2 years for my layout concept...and now its all changing... i guess thats the way this hobby goes until you actually get something nailed down. perhaps if i spent more time building a layout than painting i'd stop changing my mind. I'm thinking i'll be doing the "freelanced saginaw area." this will allow me for interchange with CM, SBS, LSRC, HESR, MMRR, CSX, and i think CN/GTW somewhere up there...that should fullfill my fixes. I'll have a hard time explaining foreign power like E&LS, GRE, and MS! oh well... guess they could be on lease.

Nicely done Chris, especially with the 8804. I usually see that come to Owosso every now and then.

Those CM units look great. I can't wait to see the GLC unit.

Well..the turbo stack needs to replaced with a paper airfilter..other wise..great job..both loco's look nice! Yes..they are technicaly GP38-2's..but listed as GP38AC's..all 4 8800's are former B&O/Chessie GP40's.This is an Atlas GP40. i have modified the exterior to be prototypical by removing a fan and patching the roof and sides as appropriate. Central Michigan had these rebuilt to the standards of a GP38-2...atleast thats what i've heard.

Re: New additions to my roster part 2
Thank you for the kinds words. Some things i am willing to let be, i'm sure there would be a million different things i could do to make it 100% authentic. If you're still in need i have a couple CM sets left for the GP's and i may have some left for the Uboats. Let me know if you still want any. I'm expecting them to dissapear this weekend at the GVRR show.
Thanks,
Chris
Thanks,
Chris
Re: New additions to my roster part 2
Chris, Would you be willing to bring 8804 and 8905 to GVRR with you. I'd like to see them in person. I'll be at the Franklin Range Divison layout all day Sunday. I'll bring mine. I'd like to compare them side by side

Re: New additions to my roster part 2
I am sure i could arrange that. I will also be painting a LSRC unit for Sunday as well... that may be a bit ambitious of me to say. I work 104 hours this week so i may not have time to finish...but i'm optimistic.

Re: New additions to my roster part 2
I supposed the CM GP38 is now a GP39 with the turbo stack instead of paper filter box

Re: New additions to my roster part 2
Thanks Don, your kind words are always appreciated. To be honest, i didn't even notice the turbo on there...completely slipped by me. If i were to do it over again perhaps i would remove it... i still may, that piece is easy to replace. or perhaps just switch it out with an actual GP38 hatch.

I want to thank everyone for making this project so successful so we all can enjoy michigan shortline decals again. All of your purchases go directly into financing the artwork for the next round of road names. Hopefully we'll complete the entire schedule this year. If anyone has any suggestions on michigan roads or specific paint schemes you would like to see in a decal, feel free to throw out requests... if you can't tell yet, i like the oddballs that make things unique. I received a suggestion recently and in the future there will be 2 different MQT decal sets. keep the suggestions coming, most of these lines i've never seen in person. thanks again everyone.

Would those 2 MQT sets be SD40-2 #3001 and GP38-2 #2635?
