I realised that after I posted. IIRC 4449, 844, 3985 and others have dedicated HEP cars.sd70accsxt700 wrote:They dont need the Amtk units for HEP. They will probilly use it but they dont need it. How do you think all the other trips years past were ran with out HEP.

I don't think any class 1 will let steam run without a "protection" unit (modern diesel) in the consist these days. Probably only hope for a "pure" (non diesel) consist will be some of the excursion runs from Owosso...J T wrote:

I don't follow mainline steam in this country, I'm probably one of the only railfans who could care less about steam moves. To be honest, I wasn't sure how they powered the cars. The few steam videos I saw had AMTRAK or other units tucked in behind the steamer and the auxillary tender. I figured they were there as protection and providing HEP.sd70accsxt700 wrote:They dont need the Amtk units for HEP. They will probilly use it but they dont need it. The 4449 does not have a lot of cars and they do not have HEP cables. All the cars that they have are owned by members of the Friends of the 4449. I would imagane that would be the reason why they are picking up the Milw consist as it is fully Amtrak qualified, and not to mention a lot more places to put butts in seats, cause thats what pays for the trip!

Re: Train Festival 2009: Update
Ok, there seems to be 2 schools of thought here - obviously if the 4449 will be leading under her own power or not. I have spoken to a fairly reliable source that states CN will not allow steam to lead, even with help from a diesel or diesels (don't shoot the messenger). I do hope that is not the case obviously, but I guess we will see.
Does anyone have a firm date as to when the 4449 will be coming into Michigan for this event in Owosso???? I read someone said 2 weeks before. Does anyone know for sure????
Also, what is the route going to be for the 765? Does anyone know???? How early will the 765 come into Michigan prior to July 24th????
Thanks!

Re: Train Festival 2009: Update
I dont know how it is on the other railroads, but I am 99% sure that in order for cars to travel on the CSX they have to be 100% Amtrak specs. I believe that may be only in "live" service, but may also apply to deadhead stuff. While it would be cool to see the 261 cars, to me it would be a grater dissapointment to have 4449 come over and not bring its "train" with it. I mean at least when I think of the Daylight I think of the package as a whole.

Re: Train Festival 2009: Update
A tentative schedule is "not" a confirmed schedule. Subject to change they say. Hope not. The door to a photo opportunity for something we see for the first time and the last time must stay open for railfans. Mostly if the day of the week is a Saturday or Sunday. Bar none.
Re: Train Festival 2009: Update
Of course...but at least they are planning on running on the weekend...which means, no work for JT and the days wide open to get pictures. If the schedule changes, then I'll just have to tell my boss I need a day or two off.Jeff L wrote:A tentative schedule is "not" a confirmed schedule. Subject to change they say. Hope not.
